Sarco has NIW triangle handguards listed in the 8-10 Shotgun News. I was at the retail store about 6 weeks ago, at the time they only had the right side in stock. He said they had about 5000. I guess they found some lefties. They claim to be manufactured by Colt. $19.95 a set or three sets for $54.50. I ordered a set. BTW there was a green 601 buttstock on the shelf in very nice shape for $100.00!

Are you sure they aren't GI repacks?

The add says," M16 & M16A1 Trianglular Handguards- original GI surplus new in the original sealed GI packaging, original early Colt manufactured..." Well see how accurate the ad is, when they get here.

I don't think Colt made their own

Waitting on report as most  <original GI surplus new in the original sealed GI packaging> I've come across seem to be from 2 differnt manufactures as they don't line up quite right

This might be an appropriate time to ask why there are thousands of right hand handguards available for less than $1 each and not so many lefties at $15 each?

Apparently, for some reason left-side ones get broken more often.  The absolute holy-grail of retro handguards is a left-side for a 601.

All the triangular handguards anyone could want.  There's roughly 30k+ available.

Wow...

Only problem I could see with the auctions was that of all the photos and details I looked at, all 32,000 plus handguards were the RIGHT SIDE ONLY!

Somewhere, in another warehouse, in another town, are 32,000 LEFT HANDGUARDS!

The Humanity!!!

LOL, I never looked at the pics, but I think you're right.  They all look to be righties...

I doubt Colt made their own handguards and they are probably made by a subcontractor. For $19.50 I figured I'm not taking a tremendous amount of risk.

My personal experience with Sarco is that they are way too generous with their grading of items.

Edit to add:

I just caught the part about the 601 handguards.  I have one half at home and I can't remember which side it is.  I will have to check and see.  My luck wouldn't be that good.

I got the handguards. They are new, but from two different manufacturers not Colt as the ad states. The  packaging for the right handguard says "American Western Corp 6-85" While the left says "Bell Fibre Products Corp Jul 1991" another label says "Repack 3/95"  The left handguard was apparently bulk stored in a bin previously because it was a few minor scuffs. Additionally the vent holes between the two do not match up perfectly but are not far off. If the hole allignment issue bothered someone enough, I think 5-10 minutes with a dremel could fix it. For $19.50 I think they are a good buy.

Picked thru a bin of A1 and A2 HGs and A1 and A2 buttstocks at local gunshow.  All used, some pretty beat, but I got a scuffed but no cracks pair.  Tag on each HG said "$5.00" - tried to give the guy $10.  He laughed and gave me back $5 - HGs were $5 a set. They had A1 grips mottled and otherwise and used nylon M14 slings at $2 a sling.

The Holy Grail:  Another guy just finished his 601 build - he had an original butt, original grip and just found original HGs .  Now all the furniture is original and green.
Has a 601 or 602 complete upper with a "W" marked barrel, chromed carrier, triangle CH, duckbill, etc (Edit:  Edgewater too).  He couldn't stop smiling the whole show.  We went out and bowed to rifle.  He actually let us touch it!!!

I got some new ones that matched pretty well from a guy on eBay who goes by wonkyfrog.  The funny thing is that they are not like the original handguards that were on the old uppers I used to sell.  These had two rings around the back, with a little bump between them that fits into the grooves of the barrel nut.  They were a little harder to put on, but they look pretty good.
