Read the Retro Forum's tacked threads, that's an excellent start.

The "Build it Yourself" forum and the tacked threads there are also a great resource.  Welcome!

My Dad bought a AR-15 A2 last week and I bought an M4 this morning, we got out an broke them in today, we got to talking while cleaning them and I said I'm going to build an early Nam style M16 and he said that would it would be cool to make his A2 into an M16A1, he asked me if I knew of any places that sold parts to fit on his A2 I told him I will search the net when I get home, and so far nothing, any help?

Converting his A2 to a M16A1 will be a major overhaul. He might as well assemble one from scratch. The tacked thread "So you are thinking of a retro build" has links to vendors that carry A1 parts. Watch the EE (Equipment Echange), gunbroker, auction sites for parts.

You and your dad will have a ton of fun building a retro rifle.

I wouldn't convert.

Ok, to convert an A2 to an A1 you willl need a new upper, a new lower, a new barrel, new handguards, new pistol grip, new buttstock... Come to think of it you will need to change everything but the bolt carrier group and fire control parts.

I would suggest waiting, reading, and making sure EXACTLY how retro you want to go and start from scratch. You will have a blast putting it together and it would be something you both could do together and be proud of.

Alright now I've got my 15 year old cousin wanting one, the only way he can get money is by allowance which is like $20 a week, so what is the cheapest way for him to go?

That will be a fun way to go.
He can buy one part a week. He will need a little help or patience for the barrel, upper reciever, and lower reciever.
Have him start with the stock, grip, handguards, these can be had for $10 or less each.
If his birthday is coming up, you could get him a lower parts kit or bolt carrier.

Hey, welcome, M2Gunner.  I'm pretty new here too.

I agree with the others who have said "Don't convert the AR variations you already have." After all, no one should own just one AR.
