No that was from the bird that was flying overhead, getting the shit scared out of it when it spotted John Rambo about to ambush those guerillas.......

These are Hmong child soldiers in Laos.  They are really, in a way, an indication of how desperate both sides are.  Hmong guerrillas are desperate to survive and the Lao government is desperate to finally stamp them out.

The Hmong guerrillas are largely remnants of members and family of people who served with SGUs and similar units, funded by the CIA, during the so-called "Secret War" period in Laos.  The Hmong like other hill tribes in South East Asia are generally regarded as subhuman by regional lowland ethnic groups such as the Lao and Vietnamese.  In Laos they bear the additional stigma of being closely associated with the US fight against the predecessors of the current Communist regime, and the Vietnamese (and possibly the Chinese) have assisted in efforts to quash their resistance to the regime.  The reality is that they'd probably be getting the short end of the stick from whoever was in power, regardless of their political leanings.  Hmong get the short end of the stick around the region, just like other highland tribal ethnic minorities like the Karen.

Cool pic.  I'm saving it for my next build.  Too bad about the kid soldiers, though.  This one looks really little.

The Hmong are very little people by genetics; even though he looks like an eight-year-old child, I'd bet he's about 15 or 16.

In Minnesota, we have the largest population of Hmong people outside of SE Asia. They are some of the nicest, most productive immigrants you will find.

I used to work with a guy named "Wa" that was a vet. He ran with MACV/SOG and the CIA starting at around age 13-14.

He took off his shirt in the locker room one day, and you wouldn't believe all the scars he had

But he was happy as a clam to be in the USA, and out worked the white guys in the shop.

These guys love the M1 Carbine, and the Erma carbine nock-off in .22LR. If the Erma's were still imported, they would buy them all!

Look closely.

That's a Carbon 15 he's got there.

I figure it's a still from the new Rambo movie - and the weapon is an oversight by the producer/director/props dept.

Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. (I noticed it right off!)

I hope you're being facetious.  That's definitly not a Carbon-15, and I don't know what would lead you to think that.

definately not a Carbon 15 - simply looks to have the e-port door missing.

there are way to many subtle parts to this rifle that NO prop dept in hollywood would of paid attention to.... imho :)

Well. Okay . . . I see there's a "regular" bolt, visible trhough the ejection port. And I also see it's not a flat top.

But, there's no forward assist.

You're saying that's a . . . what? A GAU5A?

Hmmmm . . . never heard of it. But, I never claimed to be a guru, either! I'll do a bit of homework and get back to you!

I'm not going to bother posting the pic. But, Wickipedia has a shot of a USAF guy with one - and the most noticeable difference between that one and the one the kid has is the area around the mag-release. The way the lower is molded is DEFINITELY different on the kid's.

I'm not saying there weren't different variants. But . . . .

And, the one the kid has looks "beefier," too. (could just be cuz HE'S so small, tho!)

Um..thats cause his is a partial fence and the one on Wiki is probably a full fence

Looks legit to me. Probably looks a bit beefier because the kid holding it is 1/3rd the size you are probably used to seeing hold something like that.

I think its sad, but whatever. It is a good shot of what appears to be an all original model 610 though. I bet he would take $20 for it. You would have to leave the lower behind, but the rest of the parts would be awesome to put on a NDS lower .

Can I get a set of these BDU's in 4T?

These photos were taken in my yard near the koi pond I'm rebuilding. I hired a couple of the neighborhood kids who play behind the local Asian Delight to keep a lookout for raccoons while I sure up the sides of the pond and repair the scenic bridge.
I offered them $5 a head for any coon pelts they bring me.
Strange part was they brought their own weaponry..........and I'm not sure what they do with the rest of the coons ......but I've have had to refill my BBQ tank 4 times in the last 2 days for them and they always have a hot plate of grilled chicken for me when I go out there????
I'll ask them what the origin of the rifles are when I get back from the dentist. There was a strange piece of bone in the chicken that I chipped a tooth on. If I didn't know any better , I would swear it looked like a jacketed 5.56!! I chalked it up to being like Jesus on my burnt toast and figure it's just coincidence.

Funny thing . . .

I just saw a documentary on the people known as the Myanmar. How their village(s) are built over water and they cut these huge swaths of floating vegitation that they turn into floating farmland.

Fascinating - and a beautiful people.

Should I be surprized Nat'l Geographic didn't show 'em with weapons? Not a hint of dissent to be seen . . .

Unless the documentary was taken in the Karen Province of Myanmar, there would have been no dissent.

And the current military junta in Burma does a really good job of preventing anyone from getting in, especially foreign journalists, and often jails those who do.  The regime is so corrupt that just to get a visa to enter the country you need to immediately change $500 American into local currency at an official licensed currency exchange...thereby pumping hard currency into the government.
