I'm in the process of reshaping my Stag Arms to A1 partial fence specs. So far I've made it a partial fence, and have filled in the "safe"/"fire" and Stag logo with epoxy and smoothed those areas. The only thing I have left to do is the area on the rear of the reciever where the buffer tube screws in. I read in the stickied post above that the A2 has more metal here to add structural strength to the reciever to keep it from splitting/cracking etc. at that point, so I'm wondering if it's safe to remove that metal without having to worry about it breaking on me. I'm not going to put the rifle through any kind of stress test or anything, just 10-50 rounds at a time, once a week at the most on the range or varmint hunting etc.. Is it something I should be very worried about? Thanks for any advice, Ledzep |
| While modifying an A2 lower to A1 specs does structurally weaken the lower, unless you are planning on using the rifle as a club, I doubt you will have a problem. I think one of the main reason that change to A2 specs was made was because the .mil people, using their rifles on a daily basis, tend to abuses their weapons significantly more than the average shooter. So like I said before, you shouldn't really have a problem so long as you don't resort to using your weapon like a baseball bat. |

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to leave a little more than A1 specs. No pictures yet. I have a couple before pics from right after I built the rifle last year, and I'll be sure to get some "after" pictures aswell. Basically I'm going to Zinc phosphate parkerize all of the steel parts (except small pins, springs etc.) and GUN-KOTE the aluminum. This whole thing started out with my M1 garand, and I figured since I'm refinishing that I might as well get 2 birds with 1 stone. |
