I found this A1 upper in a box of junk at the Greensboro NC gunshow today. The finish is pretty worn on the sharp edges, the top edges of the carry handle are well used. I don't know if this should be refinished or left original. I am new to AR's but I figured if it turned out to be junk it was a cheap lesson. The same guy had a very slightly used Colt bolt carrier complete with everything but the charging handle. I took both of them to the Double Star booth to have them looked at before I bought them. They said jump on both parts. So much for the good deals. I also bought a NIW unissued A1 stock complete with buffer tube, buffer, buffer spring, trap door assembly and screws. I looks great! The down side is I paid $90.00 for the stock. Go ahead and flame me.

Little bit of Moly Resin (in Colt grayish black no doubt) and it will look like new!

Looks like a good start for a retro build.

Unissued A1 trapdoor stocks are a bit hard to find.  I paid 90 bucks for one (probbly from the same folks) about a year ago, so...

Great price on the upper. The BCG is a good price if in good shape. The stock seems a bit steep. Good finds!

The buttstock seems high, but a new A2 set is $60-65. Given its an A1 trapdoor NIW...$90 isn't that bad. You definitely made up for it on the upper and b/bc. I've got a buddy that always finds a good deal in the junk boxes. :) Good finds.

I will also vote for a full retro build. I would consider leaveing the finish "as is".
To me it looks like normal wear on a good honest working gun.
