I picked up, today, an M16 upper. It is a slick side, and has a 20 inch barrel. The barrel is marked that has a chrome bore. Everything appears original. I bought it without handguards, or the bolt/carrier/charging handle assembly. Price was $150 How did I do? |
If it's in good shape yah stole it. Elvis |

Back to the top...how much is this sucker worth? I've got to add it to my insurance. Just to be clear, it is a slickside, M16 (not A1) upper. No B/C/CH, no handguards. Barrel is COLT and is the correct "pencil" configuration. Flash hider is either A1 or A2, not the 3 prong. What is the correct hider? How much is this thing worth? |

If the barrel indeed says "chrome bore" on the top side, along w/"C MP" in front of it, and the upper reciever has a "C" with another letter marked under the rear sight, it sounds like you got a very late Air Force contract piece. On the other hand, if the reciever has no marking under the rear sight, it's almost certainly an early upper w/a replacement barrel. In that case, the reciever will almosrt certainly have been refinished and be more black in color than earlier types usually are. I'm assuming that you did NOT get an SP1 upper. Case one will tend to be worth a bit more than the rebarrelled piece; probably about $275. If it is a rebarrelled job, probably about $200-$225. Understand, the value of these type pieces is very iffy. It all depends on where you live, and what the local market value might be at a given time. Here in North Georgia, for instance, the market for what you got would be just about what you paid for it, because people at gun shows up here aren't particularly interested in the older stuff. They all want M4gerys You certainly did not get screwed. My hunch is that you got a pretty good deal. I think that if you put an insured value of $300 on it, you'd cover your butt pretty well. |
