So I'm slowly but surely assembling parts for my Retro Project:

RRA Lower : figure it's a first class, correctly spec'd foundation with a good company to back up any problems..will use all RRA internal components as well.

CDNN SP1/M16 Upper Probable: It's Colt M-16 Spec'd, already assembled with first class, correct components, hoping for simple "drop-in".

Already have a quality AR15 Bolt/Bolt Carrier and charging handle. Is there an M-16, Viet Nam- Retro Charging Handle?

Already Pay Pal'd a fellow board member selling triangular handguards, M-16 Pistol Grips and M-16, Non-Trapdoor buttstocks . May end up withg extra pair of Triangular Handgaurds..wil have a choice of which look best..and actually have an extra , Non Trap-Door M-16 buttstock, so again I'll have a choice of parts. Already have spare buffer and springs.

Here's a quick question:

Do the old, M-16 stocks take a "regular" buffer tube, or do I need to order a special part...and I also understand trhe old M-16 Buttstocks may need a different buffer attachment screw...which I also suspect doesn't come with the old furniture?

I'm expecting the actual "build" to be a great project.

Also, does the CDNN SP1 upper drop into the current RRA Lowers or will I need a "Pin Adaptor"?

Finally, when it's all done, how close will I be to replicating an acutal Viet Nam Era M-16?

You got it bud.
A1 stocks use Rifle buffer tubes, A1/A2 doesn't matter... but the buttstock screw for an A1 is shorter. JAFYI.

Also, the CDNN uppers aren't SP1 , but true M16a1 uppers, so they're small hole and will drop on your RRA lower with no problems.

Ok, here's another 1:

I have 2 M-16 Buttstocks, both non-trap door.

The older looking one has a single screw on the buttplate for the tube and an extended lower sling swivel...almost looks "hinged". It also looks like a "bakelite" coarser material. What's the best way of refinishing it if needed: Fine sanding....primer-krylon?

The newer looking one, still non-trap door, has 2 screws on the buttplate and a conventional looking swing swivel...and looks to be a finer plastic.

What would be more authentic?

If you're interested in getting rid of the extra non-trap door stock, drop me a PM.

Do you have pics? If it looks like bakelite, DO NOT do ANYTHING to the stock until you're sure that its NOT bakelite. If it is, that's a rare stock. DONT touch it. Take pictures and post them here. Is the older one black or brown or mottled black and brown?

My 2, non-trapdoor  A-1 Stocks and I may have a 3rd inbound.
As you can see, one has a smooth finish and a conventional sling swivel.
The other has a rougher, bakelite type finish that looks almost black-brownish mottled...with an extended, almost hinged swivel. It also only has 1 stock screw to attach it to a buffer tube, unlike the newer A-1 that has an extra screw for the sling swivel.
Anyone know the history of the older stock and which one might be better for my retro build?

Either stock would be appropriate.  The single-screw stock is of a somewhat older vintage though.  Use whichever one looks best without refinishing.

EDIT:

Sherluk has the correct length buffer screws.
