[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Correct Sling

What is the correct sling for the M16A1 and XM-177E2 rifles? I need to know for my SP1 and CAR-15 clone.

I guess it depends on the era. All of the M16A1s I saw in the 80's had the black canvas sling.

Up until the late 60's a web M1 sling would be correct. After that they went to the green nylon slings. These were a "flat" weave and very slippery. Some of them even had the metal pieces made of aluminum instead of steel due tot he problems of corrosion in SE Asia.

I`ve seen the M1 sling but not the others. Post em if you got em.

Top is the M1, bottom is the early nylon M16. It can be detached at the rear for "target" use like the M1. The hardware on mine are galvinized steel.
