Is that one of the slip over flash suppressors offered some time back? Yes it is, although as I recall I installed it a year after I purchased the carbine in 81/82. It adds a little weight out front making offhand shots a bit easier. And, it was much more effective as a flash hider than the factory A1 was. . |

I turned it into a T65K1 without realizing it, waiting for a company called Bad Attitude to start doing their A1 lowers so I can get a T65 lower with the K1 stamp on it. The one from that group that Im most proud of is the M311 Clone. Its taken me over a decade to get the stock set parts together and finally find someone doing lowers with Norinco Markings. I did this one up to represent a later version of the 311 with an A2 lower and the later CQ-A ambi parts. |

Two of my retro ARs. They are both based off of M16A1 kits that Centerfire Systems was selling years ago. Kits had no barrel, auto sear, nor furniture. Top rifle (603 copy) has NoDak Spud A1 lower receiver with Schmid Tool AR parts kit, Colt A1 upper receiver / BCG / CH, Brownells 20" 1-12 barrel with original Colt flash hider, Colt SP1 buttstock with trapdoor, Colt A1 pistol grip, USGI surplus handguards, USGI surplus "seatbelt" sling. This rifle emulates one I carried in the ARNG in the late 1980s. Lower carbine (XM177E2 copy) has Brownells A1 receiver (made by NoDak Spud) with CMMG AR parts kit, Colt A1 upper receiver / BCG / CH, Brownells 12.7" 1-12 barrel with Brownells faux moderator, Colt N-1 buttstock and 2-position buffer tube, Colt A1 pistol grip, aftermarket (AFAIK) 6-hole skinny handguards. I'm beginning to get parts together for a 604 copy as well. Attached File |

Got my furniture for the 604 clone in today, from Gunny's Surplus. Just under $140 for this. Took about 17 days from ordering to delivery. Grip appears to be a "fat" grip. Has a "2" inside the bottom and an "E" at the top. Handguards are late with drain holes. Stock is a solid Type D. Swivel is in good shape and buttplate is solid with no cracks. Attached File Got a slickside 604-type upper from Brownells back around Christmas, and the Brownells 1-12 skinny barrel about a week later. I need to paint the black upper with some Rustoleum to simulate Colt gray and match some other parts. Attached File I already have BCG, CH, other lower parts. Trying to decide if a I want to get a partial-fence M16-type lower from PSA, or cannibalize my XM-177E2 for its A1 lower for the 604 and then order a XM-177-type lower from PSA. |

MY CA compliant 654. GAU-5/P like I had in the reserves.  This also a "Retro".. Mini-14 GB was Bill Ruger's answer to the AR15/M16 for Military and Law Enforcement Sales in the 70s. It was also designed by L. James Sullivan (who was the chief design engineer on the AR15) after Ruger hired him away from Armalite.   And this is retro: 1960/1961, this was the most common rifle for advisers in RVN (only in M2)  |

H&R XM16E1 clone build finally pretty much done. Replaced the dimpled parts, and I have a chrome machined firing pin retaining pin on the way to me. I think I want to switch the bolt latch out for a more gray version. Pretty happy with this one, been on the want-to-do list for a long time.

Colt 604 clone. Brownell's A1 lower purchased off the EE back in 2019. Brownell's Slickside upper (painted with Rustoleum Dark Gray primer) and 1/12 barrel purchased during Black Friday and Christmas sales last year. USGI furniture from various online sources the last couple of months. Colt BCG (parts sourced from the EE at different times). 20-rd mag from Secret Santa in Teams last Christmas. Seatbelt sling (free) from CMP South Store Tent Sale last November. Attached File |

Out of all of my reweld builds and clone builds this is my very favorite. Colt XM16E1 reweld where the forging was made most likely in 1964 due to the optical indexing mark (raised plus) on the fence, but not put into service until sometime around 1966 (500,000 SN range) It’s literally the closest I can legally get to a full restoration, the trigger is a Militia State Armory 3 position forced reset trigger.

Been looking at running them in a couple of my retro builds but really don't care for the anti-walk pin's look. Even looked at using HK 416 FCG pins with their fairly discreet e-clips but would definitely prefer the clean "stock" looking configuration. Again beautiful build & TIA! |

The trigger is the Militia State Armory MBT which is a forced reset trigger but it’s based off of Milspec parts so it uses Milspec pins. He won’t be making anymore complete triggers (mainly the housings) but he plans of making and selling upgrade kits for the WOT and Rarebreed triggers Also not sure if you heard the fantastic news but as of today, Rarebreed has officially WON their lawsuit against the ATF and it is OFFICALLY over! Starting Monday Rarebreed will be selling triggers again |

What ever happened to Brownells BRN-601 rifles? I assume PSA acquisition of H&R and Nodak Spud left Brownells without a supplier for retro A1 lower forgings. Anyways I missed my chance to get a complete BRN-601 when they were available, and since H&R doesn't offer a complete model 601 at this time, (does anybody know why not?) I had to improvise. This is my H&R model 601 clone. I got a complete gray slick-side 604 upper, unfortunately it didn't come with the correct shiny chrome slick-side bcg, and I replaced the flash hider and charging handle with a duckbill and a triangle charging handle, pretty easy but still wish it came with the retro bcg, I'm not buying one for $200 dollars and getting stuck with one that I don't need. Anyways then I ordered all the lower parts piece by piece and assembled it all together. I know there are clone sticklers that will say it's not a 601 lpk, I used the H&R M16A1 gray lpk, but it's just like a BRN-601 would've came anyways, they didn't have 601 lpk either. H&R doesn't have the green furniture like the BRN-601 either so all I have left to do is paint the furniture OD green. I ordered a rattle can of USAF olive green and a can of OD green, see which one looks better. Here it is complete with real Vietnam era G.I. issued web sling and Adventure line 20rd magazine.  wtf pics won't load?!

Here's a GAU-5A/A that I recently built and SBR'd. Pretty much identical to the GAUs that our SNCOs, officers and dog handlers had while I was schlepping around an M16 as a young SP. Later I retrained into CATM and had to rebarrel a lot of GAUs into GUUs. But I always liked the GAUs. Compact, light little carbine. Attached File |
