Several years ago I bought a cheap 8.5” pistol kit. It was way over gassed. I played around with buffers and springs but couldn’t get it to run right. Eventually I bought an adjustable gas block for it, but that time I had moved on to other projects and didn’t get it installed until a couple of days ago.

I’ve got a plan for setting it up but was hoping for some feedback on whether or not I am going about this backass ackwards. I have a bunch of 75 grain Prvi so I planned to set up the pistol with a carbine buffer opening the block just enough to reliably lock back the bolt on the last round. Then hopefully I can run some 193s in it by putting in a heavier buffer. Does this sound right or should I be doing something different?

Thanks

The idea of adjustable gas block is that you, you know, adjust it. And nothing else.

The block will be under the handguard and hard to access so I'm trying to just set it up once. Easier to swap out a buffer.

Let me try this from another angle. Will the 75 grain cartridges produce lower pressures than the 55? If so will a heavier buffer help with the higher pressure? I'm asking because I'm not sure my assumptions on pressure generated by different bullet weights and when to use a heavier buffer are correct.
