| Ok, so, I read the post on the ATF stance on foregrips on a AR pistol and apparently they are not allowed at all ? What about a magwell grip ? If I get a tax stamp registering my rifle as a SBR, can I legally have a forgrip ? Also I heard that in TN, where I live, that if u build a gun and register it as a pistol or a rifle that you can install a buttstock and shoulder fire it without breaking the law. Any truth to that? Thanks in advance for your help. |

The one caveat is if your pistol, sans the muzzle device OAL exceeds 26" and then one can place a vfg on the pistol. Doing so changes the classification of the pistol to a firearm, removal of the vfg and it returns to being a pistol. One note is to not conceal the "firearm" as you will have then created an AOW which would then need a tax stamp.
So yes you can place a vfg on a pistol federally, maybe not under your state laws. Depends on its OAL. |

Putting a foregrip on a 26"+ pistol makes it a firearm not a pistol. My statement stands true, no pistol can have a foregrip. The OP obviously has no experiance with any type of firearm or the common federal and even his own state laws that regulate them. Don't confuse him with the convoluted NFA conflicting laws, walk before you run and all that. |

This should answer your questions and provide links to needed forms: http://quarterbore.com/library/pdf_files/shortbarreledriflefaq.pdf Just remember to list only one caliber, OALand barrel length on the form 1 as opposed to what you read there, things have changed a bit since that was written, If you have questions this is your best resource here on the forum: http://www.ar15.com/forums/f_6/51_Short_Barrel_Rifles__SBR_.html Here in Tennessee we have very pro 2A laws so you should have no problem getting NFA stamps. If it is legal under federal law it is legal here. |
