I thought I had a 10.5" but I've been informed that my OAL of approx 27" would not be a 10.5" bbl.  I have the following:

  • Carbine length buffer tube

  • Bbl sticks out about .5" from the 10" FF tube.

Sorry I can't get a pic up. Anybody have a thought on the length?

TIA

Mine is configured like the top pistol.

Since 10.5" w/ carbine tube is about 25", I guess it's a 12, and your ff handguard is actually longer than 10?

You don't actually have a rifle buffer tube on it, instead of carbine, do ya?

Oh, and you're not including muzzle device in length too, are ya?

Thanks, the buffer tube is definitely a carbine tube with a shoulder. And no I'm not including the FH. SO IF A 10.5 were on it the 10" FF rail would cover the bbl?

Dude I can't tell whatcha got without pix. Put a stick or something down in barrel on closed bolt and measure it, estimate and subtract some of FH lengh.  The barrel threads end about .6 inches beyond rear of crush washer for it.

This is reportedly what ATF does to measure barrel length.

Dowel, pen tick mark, and measuring tape will tell you what your length is.

Except most have to subtract muzzle device and you can't see exactly where threads end. I'm sure if ATF were gonna take the effort to actually do it, they'd remove it, but probably not so practice in OP's case, but should be able to get pert close.

I found my yellow safety stick, measured from the breech face, subtracted the YHM QD. I have an 11.5" bbl. I remembered this bbl was a 16" cut by a friend at JT. He wanted to make it a 12", I got him to compromise and he went 11.5". LOL

Well, that explains that, but still would seem would have to be very tight on the 26" mark rather than closer to 27".

I measured the heck out of my first one when I still had the carbine buffer tube on it, even using squared up method with parallel sticks, flash hider off,  and it was barely 25" sort of low side touching the mark, really.  So close that I myself wouldn't have trusted a 26" measurement in same way.

That first one "evolved", but I did wind up with a second 10.5" almost identical to that one then,  without a brace, and the pistol tube on it is exactly same length as carbine tube:

I think I know the issue on the length. I have a pistol tube (shoulder) that uses the carbine spring system. I measured it against my son's carbine tube. It is over an inch longer. My apologies, I used bad terminology.

I swear tho, IIRC my bbl looked much the same as yours. I'll have to pull the muzzle device to get to the truth.

Well, a KAK tube is about 1.5" longer than a carbine or average pistol tube, and with a 10.5" barrel, makes about 26.5 or a bit more to end of barrel threads.  Here's what my first 10.5" barreled one turned into with a KAK tube on it.

A barrel that sticks out .5" of a true 10" rail is a 10.5" barrel with the rail coming to rest at the back of the muzzle device threading.  A 9" rail will have about 1" of exposed barrel before the MD threading on a 10.5" barrel.

The FF HG is an MI. I would think it is close.
