| I want to build a short barrel Daniel Defense pistol, but Daniel Defense doesn't sell striped lowers. I was thinking of doing a custom Daniel Defense upper build and then put that on another lower. First question is Daniel Defense as good as I think it is? Are their products always milspec? I have read some forums where people say that they had a hard time putting their Daniel Defense upper on another lower. That leads to my second question. What lower if any would be the best to go with a Daniel Defense upper? |

DD is often regarded as better than mil-spec. Mil-spec doesn't mean the best quality out there at all.
I'm guessing you're talking about buying a DD MK18 upper and putting it on any lower? You will definitely be g2g with any mil-spec lower. Just browse the pic threads, many people use them. I haven't heard anything about anyone complaining of fit issues. You will be hard pressed to find a DD Lower someone parted out. If I were you I would just buy the cheapest mil-spec lower you can find. PSA usually has good deals on blem lowers and you can't even find the blems. You could buy a DD LPK to keep to the DD idea if you want. You're thinking too much into this. Buy an MK18 upper and put it on any pistol lower you want, you wont be disappointed. |

If you search for threads on Lowers there is a really good one that goes into the different manufacturers out there and the quality of the product. There are only about 5 that make them and then they are shipped to the individual retailers and finished. As an example, I was at the Cheaper Than Dirt! retail store and was going to buy a Smith & Wesson lower. It looked really clean, well finished. I went back a week later and they had a Spike's Tactical lower for $50 less. I took the two out and compared and there was zero difference in the cut and finish. Now there are some really poorly finished lowers out there...you'll mostly see it at the back of the lower just above the pistol grip area and in the front of the mag well. Spikes is really well done...very smooth. I'd highly recommend it. |
