The last piece I'll need for my pistol build is a flash can. I was looking at the obvious ones like the KX3 and the KAK, but is there a flash can that actually does work as a flash hider as well, or are they two seperate beasts? You either get flash reduction, or you push the blast forward?

The KX3 and the KAK Flash Can are two separate beasts, The KAK is nothing more than an open ended can that screws onto the barrel and directs the blast forward, The KX3 is also an open ended can that has a "Funnel" device that screws into the can (with the small end towards the muzzel) that creates back pressure and helps contains the muzzle flash. Hence the price difference between the two. I used a KX3 on a 300 Blackout pistol build to help build backpressure and cycling of the bolt.

Hmm, not sure I totally got that in my earlier reading. So, I have an 11.5" Voodoo barrel in 5.56 coming for my build. Any thoughts on whether the additional backpressure would be necesary/helpful?

Here was the one can I found that sounds like it does both but I haven't read much about it:

Screaming Banshee

That design looks very similar to the Noveske.

The Noveske doesn't reduce flash though correct?

Although honestly, I'm not sure how that other one does either. Still looks like a cone in a can.

Actually, Noveske copied the Bulgarian 4-piece booster made for their short barrel rifles (AKS-74U and later AK-104 and AK-105 series)

It does, but it'll still throw flames and unburnt powder, depending on your barrel length and ammo.
These guys run a few different types of ammo through one at night (watch to the end):

My 10.5 has a KAK

The flash is a small cone the size if a dixie cup that is invisible in daylight
Pushed the noise downrange
I see no signs of wear

Recently tried a KAK std size, A1X, and BMaster CAR15 4.5" hider at night. The KAK much better then the other 2. It did swirling sparks compared to 2 huge fire balls of the other 2.  Good enough for me concerning it being worth its size. I'd prolly run the A1X if it was needed for carry more then anything(like vehicle duty, etc).

I actually just ended up ordering a KAK. I wanted the KAK SIG tube anyway so since I was ordering from them I decided to give the KAK can a try.

Once that rolls in this week I'll have everything needed to finish my pistol build!

I turned my own KAK type can for my 10.5 build and I concur with the small cone of flash, at least under slow fire, rapid fire results in a rather large muzzle flash.

That Banshee adds over a half pound, right out at the end of your muzzle. Not good. I think the KAK is like 3oz. After time, the cone on the Banshee will get eroded & you'll end up with a straight through can anyway.
