Hi everyone, this is going to be my first ar15 pistol build. I actually sold my midlength to fund this since I never get to go to a out door range seeing as I'm pretty close to Chitcago. I really don't mind though, I'd rather have something for closer ranges. This will be a "PDW" and the beauty is that I can keep this loaded in a vehicle once I get my CCW permit. Also state law pre-empts regulation of handguns/pistols. (Don't wanna start a debate/argument about that though, I did my fair share of research on Illinois Carry) Im also not going to go through the trouble to SBR it in my state. Im in crook county. Even though I do have pre-emption in my town, a LEO sign off is probably impossible for me.

Parts List as Follows

Ordered a Barreled Upper from MasDefense

Upper Receiver
Cerro Forge or Anchor Harvey
No T-Marks
M4 Ramps
Black Hardcoat Anodized Mil-Std-171 Type III
Precision Machined to Mil-Spec Tolerances
Forged From High-Grade 7075 T6 Aluminum

Barrel
10.5" 5.56 NATO / .223 Chrome Moly Steel
1x9 Twist - M4 Ramps
Magnesium Phosphate Finish
10.5" 5.56 HBAR Barrel

Stuck with the HBAR for now since the upper was already test fired/shipped. I'll probably upgrade to a 11.5 inch barrel with a 1x7 twist down the road.

Gas System-
Carbine Length - .750 Low Profile Gas Block

Handguard-
Yankee Hill Machine 9638 - 9.675" Light Weight Series Quad Rail (Heard Good Things)

Flash Hider-
YHM Flash Annihilator - Hoping this helps a bit on an SBR/Pistol Barrel.

BCG/Guts- Spike's Tactical BCG/Charging Handle

Lower Specs-
Aero precision X15 Lower
CMMG/Ergo Parts/Spring Kit (Certain Mixture of parts I had the best results with on my midlength)
Buffer Extension/Buffer Assembly: Veriforce Tactical 8" Pistol Tube (Also perfect fit for SB15, if it sucks Ill just go with KAK) Carbine buffer should be no problem with this tube.
I will get the brace next paycheck. Buffer Assembly is by Tactical Intent and was pretty reliable/had no issues.

Misc- Magpul Pistol Grip/Trigger Guard/AFGV2

Optics- Primary Arms Microdot (Will get Magpul MBUS as BUIS)

I look forward to seeing pics. I have been considering a Mas Defense upper myself. If you could let me know the build quality and give me a range report that would be awesome

Would you suggest using a Flash Can then? It's can always sell it and get a different flash hider. Or keep it for a later build.

That one is Aluminum and 4 oz.

Upper arrived safe and sound. Tracking was just being weird.

Received my buffer tube and sling mount/end plate

Despite the HBAR and Rail it feels so light weight. I opted for the YHM lightweight rail.

Upper is a Cero Forge, looks great.

I came just short of the 26 inch OAL for vertical grips. Oh well

Ill probably be replacing this flash hider.  (I need vice blocks first D:) Still need to decide what Im gonna do.

Flash Hider is now on EE.

Can anyone tell me if a Vortex Flash Hider is any good on an AR pistol? How bad is the noise/fireball?

I have a brand new KAK flash can that I was going to use on an 11.5" build but have decided against it, cost it is going to look weird on such a "long" pistol build, as I am using a 10" rail.

Hit me up if you are interested in it.

Ah bummer, I just ordered one before I read this :/

Parta me regrets not getting a 10 inch rail. But I don't think it will look too bad.

If you use either of the KAK SB-15 buffer tubes, it'll bring a 10.5" barrel over 26".  I just installed one on mine and it ended up 26.125" to the barrel shoulder.  I didn't pull the flash hider since I was already over 26", but it should be about 26.75" including the barrel threads.

Nice looking upper (except for that FH, which you wisely threw to the EE wolves).  A 10.5 shouldn't be too terribly loud.  I just have a YHM Phantom FH on mine, and it's not really that different from my other AR's, even from a covered firing line.  That guy who always seems to show up next to me with his 16" carbine and a giant brake on the end is far more obnoxious, noise-wise.

My tube from Veriforce Tactical is 8 1/8 from the threads. On a positive note it does not need a modified end plate. I figure I'd try out for the heck of it. $30 bucks wasn't bad. I checked the specs and it's the same type of metal/aluminum.

In case you were unaware, KAK makes something they call a "flashcan" - which seems pretty much like a PIG but for half the price.

The Pig has a cone in it to increase back pressure as well as direct the muzzle blast forward.  I have heard some back things about the "flash can" type muzzle devices that are made out of aluminum.

Built my lower today, aside from everything being tight it functioned fine. I mated the receivers and tried pulling back on the charging handle... Bugger got stuck and wouldnt even pull back.. It got stuck so bad I had to wrap the CH in tape on one side, put it in a vice and give a big tug to get it free. (I power lift and that took A LOT of force to get it loose.) What gives? This BCG functioned fine in my spike's rifle..

Looks like I have to give Mas Defense a call tomorrow.. These things are supposed to be test fired.. Any idea what went wrong here? BCG and Charging handle were installed correctly. I put the bolt in without the charging handle and it still got stuck once it was fully seated (Robo Grips were a life saver there.).

Is it the barrel? Gas Tube?

Diagnosis: Not the lower, BCG worked fine in another gun before.. It has to be my new upper..

As weird as this sounds I might be selling the brace and might be going with a foam tube. Oppinions?

No idiot marks this time!

Sorted out the bolt problem and it functions fine. Ordered a flash can (seller is taking his sweet time) I might just go with an a2 flash hider after what I've been hearing about it being aluminum and all.

My personal preference is a CAA saddle.  Provides a nice solid cheek rest, a convenient place to store spare batteries, and it helps the buffer tube not look so bare.  You'll still need the foam cover or something to make the buffer tube diameter match the saddle for it to fit right, but otherwise, it's an easy install.

Thanks for the recommendation. I have a Saddle/Adapter coming in the mail for my buffer tube cover.

The front sight is a modified UTG Front Sight that uses a low profile wing nut instead of a thumb screw. Also makes a nice thumb rest. I'll probably swap it out for magpul though. Just threw it on for show.

I'm liking how this is coming along. my CAA Stock Saddle is otw. I need an angled grip and some BUIS now. :)

The UTG Covers are just temporary. It comes out to 27 inches OAL with the A2 Flash Hider.

I sorted out issues and I think I'm "done".

I've been so busy lately I never got to shoot it. Im thinking this weekend or next. Had a family member get real sick and I've had to help out.

Heh just had to post this.

Now as it stands in it's "final" configuration.
