Our first AR pistols (with 10.5" barrels). Anybody like?
My son's pistol is a 7.62 x 25 Tok gas-operated upper put together by Ron Williams. It came with Ron's 3 prong flash hider (shown) for the 5/8 x 24 threads, but it is wearing a fake can in the first picture and a thread protector in the second pic.
The can and TP were put together for me by Mark Rogers. Mark does a lot of different versions for ARs Uzis, and Macs, but this was a new thread pitch and model for him to produce. It turned out very nice. The can looks great with traditional AR grips or inside of a FF tube as shown in the 3rd pic. The TP mates up to Ron's AR barrel perfectly, too.
Ron Williams chambered my pistol for 10mm, and it is also gas-operated. Ron put the upper together, except for the small parts and BCG. It is finally nearing completion with only a couple small parts remaining to be found/fitted. The buffer tube will likely be wrapped with paracord. The Sten mag front to rear dimension was enlarged slightly to allow for the full length of Norma's 200gr rounds. I really like the laser mounted alongside the holo sight.
I will primarily shoot full power loads instead of Short & Weak or subsonic rounds. According to Ballistics by the Inch I'm not giving up much velocity vs a 16" carbine. But this will have substantially more power than with the Delta, and almost no recoil with DI operation. For anyone interested in another option for barrels cut with 5/8 x 24 threads, Mark made up a small batch of fake cans (5" long and about 1 1/2" in diameter) and thread protectors when he did mine. I haven't measured the exit tube diameter, but it looks to be large enough to handle .45 cal plus as requested. Mark does not yet appear to have them on his http://www.mlrdistributing.com website. Please contact Ron Williams via one of his posts here in AR15 (most any .45 thread in the Rimfire/Pistol Caliber forum) or Mark Rogers using the email link at his website with any questions about their work and products. |

That "Tok" is awesome. Very neat. What mods were needed to lower? Thanks. My son like it quite well, too. He's also gotten to shoot it with 2 different registered cans, though both were a few inches longer. Zero mods to lower. PPS43 mags get drilled for AR mag release plus a couple other fitting mods. Magwell adapter provided by Ron with his upper. Scroll down about 3 or 4 posts here for pics and contact info for Ron. |
