I used a 16" Faxon mid length med taper for mine (pretty light. My 15" M5e1 with RDS and buis comes in at less than 9lbs). I also used a Tom's Tactical nitride bcg ($150). FOrward assist works great with that combo too. To (preemptively) avoid any extraction issues, installed a DPMS GII extractor kit (uses reshaped extractor and elastomer bushing instead of spring).
IMHO, M5 (especially the e1) is the best quality/value 308 set out there. You did good! ETA: oh, and don't screw around, get the AP lower build kit. Comes with the proper length takedown pins and longer mag release button. |
| If you want to avoid problems go with a proven company, there is no free lunch when it comes to this. It cracks me up how a lot of guys are buying $200ish barrels and expect AMU type performance. If you are wanting a ready made barrel with proven performance then get a Krieger, Criterion, JP or Lother Walther. These companies have ready made AR-10 barrels and you can get bolts from some of them. There are a couple of threads in the precision section where some are having problems with some new company barrels and are getting ignored. The buy once, cry once advice seems to not be followed in this section when it comes to barrels... |

None on their website... 308 BCG from LMT looks awesome, will probably use that. Still need a rifle gas 16" barrel Do I need an adjustable gas block? |
