Looking at getting one of these. Does it use any standard ar15 carbine drop in handguards? I'd probably want to install a Troy Charley rail. Is the rail height the same difference between the gas block and upper as an AR15, so that I could use any gas block mounted front sight and standard rear buis?

Looking at getting one of these. Does it use any standard ar15 carbine drop in handguards?   I have personally used magpul moe handguards on this model, however, the heat shield was a little tight going over the barrel, due to the extremely thick profile of the rear portion of the barrel.

I'd probably want to install a Troy Charley rail. It is my understanding that the charley rail is only made for 5.56, which will not fit this rifle, due to the diameter of the threaded portion of the receiver. The receiver height is considered "DPMS Low" and you would need a .308 rail that is advertised as such.

Might I also suggest the following upgrades, which will help with the fact that this rifle is seriously over gassed. Spikes .308 Receiver extension , which is a little longer than the standard AR-15 extension it comes with. This will allow you to use the Spikes T3 heavy buffer , and top it off with a Sprinco "Orange" heavy buffer spring . I have personally used this combination to counteract the over gassing problem and the malfunctions it caused. Hope this helps!
