Ok, I got my first 308 AR platform, and went Sunday for a quick test run.

I got it in a trade, it's  PSA build Gen 1, with a Anderson 18" bbl, AIM NIB carrier, and some crappy cheap keymod handguard that I'm going to change.

I fired 50 rounds out of it just to test her out, and she preformed flawlessly. I was only using g irons, but was nailing clay pigeons at 100 effortlessly.

But the ejection is a bit off from what I'm used to. I've only had 546 ARs. It put all of the brass into a nice little pile, but at a 2:00 o'clock position. I'm used to my AR ejecting to a 4 or 5 o'clock.

Is the 2 o'clock ejection normal for these?

Ammo?

And is it slinging it or just throwing it at 2:00?

Pattern may change with different ammo. Common complaints for 308s are overgassed requiring different buffers or adjustable blocks or removal of one of the ejector O-rings.... Sounds like yours is functioning normally but stand by for more opinions..

My .02 on ejection patterns in either .308/7.62 or 5.56/.223 Ar's is that if it's running flawlessly I don't worry about it.

It's probably a tad over gassed, a lot of .308's (and 5.56/223 rifles for that matter) are, especially from the budget class.

You can spend a lot of money chasing perfect ejection pattern that may or may not enhance reliability or durability. If it were mine, I'd leave it alone until or unless a functioning problem pops up.

Taming over gassing on a 308 is not a huge undertaking, nor is it as simple as it is with a 5.56 rifle. Yes there are heavier shorter DPMS pattern 308 carbine buffers available, but they are $$$$. You could also get an adjustable gas block, and or pull your receiver extension off (assuming your running an AR15 extension w/ DPMS pattern short 308 CAR buffer) and swap it with a longer extension made for allowing the use of AR15 buffers with 308 carriers, and use cheaper AR15 H, H2, H3, etc...buffers. I think the Vltor A5 extension works for this conversion, but don't hold me to it, as I am content with the AR15 extensions/DPMS short Car 308 buffers I run on mine, and haven't dove to deep into it.

I don't get why people care where their gun ejects, as long as it is not in my face (lefty) and outside of the gun I'm happy.

I don't care, I was just curious if that was normal. Never even shot a 308 AR before. I traded for this rifle, and was a bit nervous after reading about some PA10 problems, but it runs great and I'm happy.

Thanks for the input guys.

The one I have does the same thing.  It is definitely overgassed, to the point that I had to put an adjustable block on it to make it run clean enough to run more than a couple of mags through it without problems (when suppressed)

Hitting shell deflector and bounced forward is another possibility. My 308 AR does that, I stick a rubber cushion on the deflector and it helps!

If you have a .308 AR that functions flawlessly, leave it the hell alone! Most .308 ar's are problematic. I have owned several, from a variety of manufactures. From bargain basement to high end and they all had to be tinkered with. Both of my current .308's dump the empties around the 2 position. As already stated, that could change with ammo.

My first Gen PA 10 ejects at the 2 clock position as well............I've put about 500 rounds through this rifle and with the exception of a hiccup with the third round fired..............It has functioned flawlessly, no ftf or fte..............

Ejection pattern says much about the volume of gas. Too much can put undue wear and strain on the gun. Too little and it does not function. Its sort of like a barometer for efficiency.
