12" is considered the "sweet" spot but the 16 is what most of us have to use. Don't gain much after the 16" mark and gain slightly over the 12. If you have an SBR you can drop a 12" on then even better. I have a 16" carbine and a 10.5" pistol. They both shoot great.

| Agree, TROMIX is the dealer you should buy from and 12 inches is the length. Between 12 and 20 inches there is less than 100 fps difference but below 12 you start losing velocity faster. My 10.5 inch is slower than the 12 by about as much as the difference between a 12 and a 20 so I personally would not go shorter than 10. Of the ones I have, the 12 is a perfect combination of velocity and handiness although I am really fond of the 10.5 also if you are not trying wring every fps out of the rifle. The 14s are just not shorter enough than the 16s to make it worth having a stamp and a 20 is just wasted added weight and brings nothing to the table over the 16s. |

Second question. The sbr lower I'd use this on currently has a sprinco blue and h2 buffer since the main upper for that is a 9.5" 300blk. Will I have any issues with this combo? |
| Hard saying not knowing. 16s do best with standard buffers and springs but I use HBs in my SBRs with standard springs. YMMV. The only way to know for sure is to try it out. IMO always start with standard and adjust as needed. In my 3 .458 SBRs I got ejector swipes with standard buffers, not related to high pressure, and a HB solved the problem. The two 16s and the 20 use standard buffers. |

I have heard of some problems with the radical firearms barrels in 458s. It may cost a couple hundred more but I would go with tromix. I did 2x with my 16.25 and 10.5" barrels. Run like tops. |

I am running the Radical Firearms 16" .458 and love it. I do have an occasional issue with a loaded cartridge sticking in the chamber (i.e. I go to eject it with the charging handle and it takes grabbing with 2 hands). I have never had an issue with a spent cartridge ejecting though. I have noticed when I first received the upper, I had to lock and load with the charging handle full rack, vice releasing the bolt when locked to the rear. It seems to be loosening up as I have put a little over 200 rounds through it and as I said love it.
I bought the Black Butterfly 100 rds variety pack, the BB 100 rds 300 grain Lead Free Frangible CTX Migration, and the Southern Ballistic Research (SBR) 300 grain JHP. Those are the commercial rounds I have used so far and they worked fine. I now still have some of the variety pack, but I have started reloading. I set my Aimpoint PRO up for 100 yds and moved to the 200/300/600 yd targets on Range 1 at the Talledega CMP range. I had great groups out to 300 yds using Barnes TTSX and a couple of other rounds, all 250-300 grain. |

My reloads so far are using Lil Gun powder, Nosler 300 grain Ball Silvertip (27 grain), 250 Grain Hornady Polymer Tip Monoflex (35 grain), and Sierra 300 grain HP Pro Hunters (35 grain). I have shot about 50 each of the Nosler and Hornady and they performed well. Chronograph for the Nosler was 1946/1946/1981/1999/1996/1984 fps. Don't know how reliable the data was as it was my buddies who was having a few issues with it that day. I have only shot about 6 quick rounds before it down poured on me on another range and day so I packed it up. I started below what I felt was maximum loads, that was based on some of the info I have found out here on the forums. Nosler has a table posted, but not using Lil Gun. I did get 1 round of data for another 4-5 types of rounds in my commercially purchased variety pack, but I do not have the data with me.
I took a deer the other day at 75 yds with the Barnes TTSX and it dropped like a rock with a neck shot exiting the eye socket (that was a little messy), also a fragment that went right and crossed to the other side, went down the ribs and exited halfway down. I went for the neck as I did not know how that round would tear up the deer. Didn't want to liquify any internals. |

I know this company may be a sponsor, but the truth hurts. I would steer away from buying this kit from Wilson Combat. I am from Arkansas and want to spend money with a local company, but customer service is customer service.
I ordered the 458 Combos set over two months ago - the site DID NOT show it was backordered. I asked the status very politely at 1 month the status, was it backordered, and when can I expect it. All they returned is they are having some barrel issues, and they had orders in front of me. At 2 months, I asked politely again the status and what number they are on and what number I am...Same response as the first - Vague. If the company can't at least tell you the order status to some finite detail, then they won't be in business long. I logged on today, and the status has changed. All my order information (what I ordered) is deleted, but it still shows my billing information and the charge - Disturbing. My account hasn't been charged, and I have no e-mails of shipping or tracking. I have contacted them for a 3rd time, and I am waiting to hear what they have going on. However, I am not happy, and I am going to cancel this order if they haven't shipped. Reamer issues or not, I would NOT recommend anyone purchase ANYTHING from Wilson Combat from my experience alone. Not a fan! Tromix was the preferred barrel when I researched, and I will be purchasing from them as soon as I see a cancellation order from Wilson Combat. HerkNav90 |
