So i finally decided to take the leap in to an AR variant. Ordered an 16'' AA barrel, bolt and a couple magazines about 5 weeks ago and they shipped on Thursday and will be delivered tomorrow. So now I'm wondering what buffer do I need? Just a standard carbine or something different? Will mainly see a steady diet of (steel)wolf and the occasional brass. Will do some suppressed shooting through a SDN6, will I need an adjustable gas block or not?
Just trying to build it reliably the first time and not trying to spend half my range time trying to figure out problems. Thanks in advance |

What length gas system? And, an adjustable gas block will be a help to trouble shooting cycling issues. I'd also recommend buying this book: 6.5 Grendel Reloading Handbook Vol 2 It has a wealth of information for we Grendel shooters. Including shooting suppressed, dwell time, etc., etc Congratulations on the new acquisition, always great to have another Grendel shooter in our World. |

If your going to run a suppressor I'd suggest an adjustable gas block. I'm running a standard carbine buffer in my 16" carbine gas 6.5 Grendel but I ussually shoot handloads and don't hot rod my 6.5 Grendels. I have tried an H-2 buffer but my rifle really doesn't need it. The Wolf steel case is not as hot as factory 6.5 Grendel A-Max. The Wolf ejects out at 3-4 O Clock on my 16" 6.5 Grendel. If I only shot factory A-Max I'd probably run an H-2 buffer but I don't shoot much factory ammo. I carry my H-2 buffer in my 16" 6.5 Grendel gun bag.
If your not going to use an adjustable gas block but still use a suppressor I'd probably use an H-2 buffer. Maybe someone else with the 16" AA barrel that uses a suppressor will chime in. |

Are you using Precision Armament thread adapter to mount your muzzle break? |
