| Anyone build a 45 raptor AR? Since this is based off the 308 lower, and was considering a 50 Beowulf, this one has me thinking. Just have some questions about reloading, brass, etc.. |

| Looks awesome. Please post range report when you get it to the range. Since selling my 50BMG, itching for another big bore. Sent Medeshafirearms a email to see if they are doing uppers. Was considering a beowulf but the raptor is interesting, plus I like the AR10 platform. Already have a 10.5 inch barreled 308 that I am enjoying. |

The brass 45raptor.com supplies is made for him by Starline and is top quality. Have not had much time for load development but with W296 I'm pushing 240gr. XTP Mags @ 2600. I tried some 320gr. cast, got 1950 with IMR-4227 but they were too soft, patterned rather than grouped. The barrels are DPMS patterned with a mid length gas system 1/4" shorter than Armalite's so some 'smithing was required on my part. Also was on my own for mag modification as I have a 'B' model Armalite. Got'er figured out though and it shoots great! More recoil than I anticipated so I added the brake. Call Scott Medesha. That's what I had to do to order the brake, great guy. Scott also supplies modified DPMS/Knights patterned mags.
You might also look at .450 Bushmaster, ballisticly it looks near identical. The case is only .1" shorter but it runs on the AR-15 platform which is lighter, less expensive and the cartridge is more mature. I went Raptor because I already had the AR-10 and this is my third upper. Not sure I'd buy an AR10 just to do this. |
That's the goal as I see it, tailor made for MI, IN & OH where they've allowed rifles with straight walled cartridges up to 1.8" in length to be used for deer in the shotgun/muzzle loader zones. I'm much more interested in deer hunting with my AR than a shotgun!

| Am hoping I get an email from them and the price is good for an upper. Never put one together before so would rather pay for professionals to do it right. Reloading components looks sketchy. When only one company makes the components, no competition to keep the costs down. |

Bottle necked cartridges in rifles during rifle season are allowed in Indiana so long as the CASE, without bullet, is at least 1.160 inches long and does not exceed 1.800 inches in length, and is at least .357 caliber. There is no straight walled requirement so rounds like the .458 SOCOM, .375 SOCOM, .358 HDH, .358 WSSM... are totally legal even though they are bottle necked. |

It's not the government that is our worst enemy in Indiana. Last year the DNR tried to open up ALL rifles .243 or larger and with a case length longer than 1.160 inches but the FREAKING scared of the dark PUBLIC got it pulled. The outcry was from land owners afraid that those laser rifles shot in the next county over would kill their sheep in their bedroom, I mean pasture.
The DNR allowed sound suppressors a couple years back for hunting and were all geared up to allow all rifles, but the ninnies who got their panties in a twist over even limited rifles being allowed, in-line muzzle loaders, and suppressors finally won one and got the any rifle bill killed. I hope the DNR will try again in a couple of years.

I never see any reports of livestock or property damage during deer season .I can assure you there are alot of 270 , 30-06 and 300 winmags in the woods . I drove a dairy tanker from evansville up through bedford and down to tell city , alot of hills trees and not many people. |

I've run 395 gr cast in mine and cycling was not reliable. Loads of fun to shoot single shot though.
200 gr FTX with 52 grains of H110 have done very well for me, not sub moa but 1 1/2 to 2 . I've also had good luck with 300 gr XTP magnum hollow points with 49gr 1680. These loads are near max according to hornady and I've had to cull some brass that I didn't notice had split when firing, use with caution and work up to it as with any data. I will say that it is as flat shooting as they claim on the website, a solid 200 yard rifle and if you know your hold into a target at 300 but the accuracy suffers alot. |

Any theories as to why you were having cycling issues? I'm also curious if long heavy bullets will have serious problems stabilizing in a 1-20 twist barrel. |
