I finally got around to loading some 308 brass that I've had for a couple of years. Range pickup. Headstamps I do not recognize.
Some of it, not much really, would not go into my full length resizing die. The reason was clear. At the bottom the case was WAY to big. This stuff was fired in something. What kind of a gun could have allowed the brass to expand that much? |

I have been there done that also, the M60 machine gun does this to Mil brass, maybe an M60 knowledgeable type might pop up and explain it.
The military machine guns have a slightly bigger or worn out chamber for dirt tolerance. So the brass grows allot as you have found out, you can fix it with patience while re sizing, some of them will have to be scrapped, I run them by hand in my case chamber guide, wiggle them around in the guide to reshape the case head, works on most of mine, I also use a dillion swager tool to remove the military crimps. I have also noticed this in the 5.56 brass shot in a SAW. Another trick, is use lot's of case lube, set your die deeper in the die plate and give it a go. I shoot my reloads in three different .308/7.62 rifles. One bolt action M98, One M1A NM, and an AR10. Have fun. |
