Looking to get my .308 build started sooner rather than later. I had planned to go with the Aero Precision M5 set, but after reading the woes in the AP Lessons Learned thread I am rethinking that. The Salt Works set is about the same price and they've got several finish options. Just wondering if anybody has used these receiver sets and how they liked them...and of course pics!

We have built 7 of them so far, All have have been flawless. Zero issues. Word on the street is they are working on some AR15 platforms.

According to the picture, I'd say it's safe to assume so.

Those look pretty sweet. Any issues with parts compatibility from various manufacturers, or are you sticking with one brand for all of your parts?

I know you asked Steed77 this question, but the one I put together...I used a standard AR15 LPK.  I'll upgrade the trigger at some point, but I wanted to get it together.  Anyway, the receiver set comes with it's own take down pins (you have to install the detents/springs) as well as their own mag release.  The rest just fit together as the AR15's do with a few parts left over.  Oh, I also used a Raddlock bullet button since I'm here in California; but any bullet button would probably work.  One more thing, the rear takedown pin detent/spring are held in place by the grip, not the stock.  it was easy to install; probably easier than the AR15.

Concerning barrels and bolts.  I'll be going with a Faxon barrel and I already have a Parallax Tactical NiB bolt carrier group.  I will have the headspace checked when the barrel is installed (per Faxon recommendation).  If you look around there are a couple folks here that have had some issues with various bolt/barrel fitment (I can't name them or locate the threads at the moment).  Most have had really good luck with PSA bolts on various barrels.  AIM surplus also appears to work with most barrels.  Rainier Arms also have had good results.

Give Byron over at Salt Works an email.  He is really great to work with; very active on the Calguns boards.  Also, Faxon has been really proactive on customer support here on ARFCOM.

Just my 2¢.

Nah. Just a nut who enjoys guns too much to keep them to himself.

Thanks for the reply! It's good to hear that things fit together well. I was already considering them as an alternative to AP, and I don't really want to spend the money on the Mega Maten set. I'll be keeping an eye out for more reviews in the future.

Thanks guys. Yea we are a reseller. You can get them directly also....Most of these we pieced together have been made be request.

We also are using Faxon barrels. SLR handguards, gas blocks and AIM Nitrated BCG's.  We have tried several triggers, LPK's, stocks, grips and brake's. They have went together good. Accuracy has been VERY good. I would like to say sub-moa, but you have to do your part.

We have been very pleased with the SaltWorks receiver sets. Zero complaints.

:cheers

Hello guys I typically only read postings, but I did try to inform people about Salt Works in the past and I was basically told to shut up.  LOL    However, as a consumer of their product I must chip in and provide you with my opinion.  I will keep it simple as it's a phenomenal product that deserves your consideration, I have now completed five builds with no issues.  Also, they just announced the release of the handguards via Facebook.  https://www.facebook.com/saltworksrifles

i have a complete saltworks build. its sweeeet. they also have excellent customer service. i had a minor problem with the anodizing since i got in on their first production batch and they more than took care of it.

i couldnt recommend them more, especially for the price.

they now offer their own rail system too. i have a odinworks on mine now but im waiting for saltworks to send me the new rail which is lighter and matches their angular look better imho.

to the OP, i also have an aero m5 upper/lower set. it has an lpk in it but besides that its unfinished and unfired. they also make a very nice receiver but i was very disappointed in the upper to lower fitment, especially because i bought what they called a 'matched set'. it clanked around worse than any ar15 upper to lower fit ive seen. im probably going to have the lower tapped for a tension screw. the forging and anodizing is flawless though. it looks like a mega set. when i registered it the officers couldnt believe it wasnt a new mega forged offering.

its kinda ironic because my saltworks receiver fitment couldnt be any tighter, and for overkill it comes with a tension screw preinstalled in case there is play.

if youre stuck between the two, id say go with saltworks.

they offer very cheap cerakoting
they come with takedown pins(aero m5 is strange width and needs an ar10 pivot pin and a dpms takedown pin, which come out to around ~$20 additional and arent usually in stock at the same store. ask me how i know)
it has better fitment plus a tension screw.
it is lighter than the aero m5 set by a couple of ounces
comes with an ambi bolt release(does not work as a catch though)
no forward assist (purely cosmetic for me, but most 308 bcgs up until a few months ago didnt have serrations anyway)

i have no affiliation with them, im just a happy customer. so far battle arms and saltworks have impressed me the most when i had an issue. above and beyond. they also are very friendly in their emails, inviting me to shoot with them if im ever in their area.

ill post a pic as soon as i figure out how.

Im working on completing one now.
This is ny first ar build.
Customer service has been great as i have had a couple issues but sorted out right away in a very timely fashion
Anxiously awaiting faxon to produce more 18" ss fluted barrels as it is my last piece of the puzzle.

I've got one, put a JL Billet rail on it, which looks awesome.
It's a really nice receiver set, the only complaint I have is it looked like it was bead blasted after the serial number was put on the lower, so it's a little bit rounded off. All of the other markings are really sharp though.

Overall, great receiver set! I've got a Proof Research 6.5 Creedmoor barrel in it now, w/ a Luth-AR stock. It's really light, I love it!

Here's my cousin behind it spotting for someone:

Take it with a grain of salt.  I built an Aero M5 ground up with an Aero LPK, minus FCG and Mag Release, and an Aero BCG.  Put all that in with a Mega Arms 18" barrel and SLR adjustable gas block.  I've had zero issues with my rifle and would recommend Aero to anyone.  There's a phenomenon within customer service/retail/etc. where bad news travels a helluva lot more than good.  I.E. someone with a bad experience will tell 20 people about it whereas someone with a good experience will tell 5.
