Does anyone have any experience with the Adams Arms 308?  It looks very intriguing.

Thanks

It shoots like a dream. The model I shot was very light and still had surprisingly little recoil. Had I not known I was shooting a 308, I would have thought it was a 223. I have one on order from the pre-orders they did back in November. As far as I know those orders were all filled a month back but I am waiting for the 18" barrel rifle gas version. If you are in the market for a 308, Adams hit a home run with this one.

I'm a fan of Adams though, this will be my 3rd

I heard that it is based on the DPMS GII receiver set.  If you look at the photos, you can see evidence of that.  I never suspected Adams Arms to be the first industry source to answer the DPMS GII with a rifle, especially one that basically mimics the GII receiver set profile.  What Adams Arms did to avoid copying the dual ejector system (first introduced by LMT), was to use a kidney shaped ejector on this rifle.

The monolithic bolt carrier approach already in use by Adams Arms means they can get around being accused of copying the GII BCG, while also addressing the mechanical engineering challenge of required bolt carrier group throw in a shorter receiver set and the traditional internal gas expansion carrier key challenges posed by AR15 carrier keys, which neither the Colt 901 nor the GII use.

Is it just me, or do those Lancer mags look a bit off? Probably a photo illusion, but it looks like the mag is slightly tilted towards the butt of the rifle.

Just looks weird i guess. I'd like to see some real world torturing of these rifles. DPMS claims is the most reliable 308 rifle. But that's already been proven wrong.

I wonder if Armalite will jump on the GII bandwagon?

Optical illusion on the Lancers.  They are there because they actually work.

Where is the source you are referencing for proving the GII is not the most reliable .308 on the market?  Not disagreeing, just haven't heard of any shoot-offs with other guns.

Yes, I also wish ArmaLite would go to a Colt AR10A or GII profile receiver set.

Just the threads that popped up here awhile back. But i think they all just started posting in that GII quibbles thread. And a few other forums too. Nothing major, i think all the problems were QC related, and not the fault of the actual design.

I have not seen/read of any shootouts with other guns. I certainly would like to. I've only fondled the GII, and everything felt right i guess. I just really don't have enough confidence in DPMS to but a complete rifle. That's just a personal opinion though.

I didn't compare side by side or anything, but the Colt 901 didn't really feel any smaller. It felt like a short AR10, but nothing like the GII, the colt still felt bulky and kinda awkward. The DPMS just felt right, and i hate to say that.

I think your the one who posted info about the new Sig 716s going the GII route. But, im still going to stand firm. I will not believe in the GII unless KAC or Armalite gets in on it. Until then, i see it as a gimmick for the next lightest thing. Better suited for weekend plinking, and not for "real duty" use. I'm also stubborn when it comes to new stuff.

It'll pick up, i just don't think it will as fast as everyone expects it to.

One of the Remington guys took a GII Recon to a 5-day course where he shot something like 2500 rounds through the gun without notifying DPMS or Remington that he was going to do that until he got back from the course.

They EDM cut the barrel in half along the longitudinal axis to expose the chamber, bore, and gas port, and the gun looked like it hadn't really been shot much at all.

Over the 2500rds, I think he experienced 1 double-feed, which is almost always magazine-related in the collective experience of self-loaders.

I know that DPMS did a lot to address reliability with the GII, as that was probably the number one thing they wanted to improve.   DPMS G2 Recon Post High Volume Shoot Analysis

KAC was the same way with the EMC and M110K programs, and if you ask anyone that has used the M110, reliability hasn't really been where people would like it to be.

That changed with the newer KAC carbines as well.  It would be interesting to see a head-to-head with the latest KAC guns and the GII.

Keep in mind that the original ArmaLite AR10 from the 1950's has never shared the reliability with the AR15 for some reason, and that's straight out of Jim Sullivan's mouth.
