Well these have been out for a while. What's the feedback? Reliability ? Problems ? Likes?

several articles coming over the next few months...and a new review linked on our website also (Outdoor Hub, February '15) .  Guy had some early misgivings, but seems ot have been pretty happy by the end of his review.

Mine has been 100% thus far and is easily the most accurate 7.62x39 I have shot to date. I think a more substantial charging handle is needed since it lacks a bolt hold open feature but a raptor was an easy remedy to that problem. So far all of my bolt hold open mags have worked great in the gun.

The surplus 30 round BHO mags are still pretty cheap and plentiful, if you want BHO in a 20 round mag you'll have to either mod the mag for the surplus BHO follower or grab some aftermarket followers. I bought some Weaponstec followers from either AIM Surplus or Primary Arms, they work great in my Hungarian Tanker mags. They're plastic but have a steel reinforment where the bolt hits the follower.

Just curious, when the bolt holds open on an empty mag is there any way on the RRA to manually lock the bolt back so it stays open on a mag change?

No way to lock the bolt open. I just use the feature to let me know I am empty just like running an AK. That is why I mentioned a better charging handle.

With all the talk about how the Mutant is built around an AR10 bolt, I'd like to see the LAR47 BCG vs a standard 223 BCG.  Anyone have those photos?  I'm interested in this just based on the size.  The Mutant is nice, but it is HUGE in hand

The carrier is the same size as a standard BCG

Thanks Alpha.  Don't suppose you've tried to run this suppressed?  Curious if I could swap buffers and buffer springs to heavier or stronger AR15 variants or if this was proprietary

What's better. In your opinion.

Mutant or LAR47?

Buffer and action spring are standard AR platform products.

I have only held a mutant so I can not comment on how well they shoot. I will say it seemed really big to me almost like I was holding my G2 Recon. The Lar 47 feels like a standard M4 in the hands and the accuracy so far has been great.

I will be trying mine with a can in a week or two. I just installed a 51T breakout and my buddy has a 308 can for it so I will let you guys know how it performs.

Steve, I ordered an lar47 tactical comp. What's the turnaround time on that rifle? It was ordered a little over a month ago.

Probably a couple more weeks.  I'm not sure where we are (by date) on the different LAR-47 models...they've been popular.

It's the same size, but the bottom profile is distinctively different from a standard 5.56 carrier.

I appreciate the reply, Steve. I'm looking forward to getting an opportunity to send rounds down range with it.

Steve,

Any feedback on Bulgarian waffle mags?  My LAR47 is en route to my FFL, and trying to source a batch of polymer mags.  I know the Thermolds are solid, any other recommended polymer brands?  Hearing hit/miss on the MOE PMAG, maybe the Gen3 PMAG will be a better fit?

Mine has ran great with p mags but I have heard of others with issues. I ran the LAR47 with a AAC SDN 6 can the other day and it functioned great.

Thanks Alpha.  I got an SDN6 in NFA jail, so happy to hear it'll work with the LAR47.  Did you do any mods to yours for the suppressor?  I typically upgrade both the buffer and the buffer spring to a JP enhanced spring and a PWS H3 for suppressor use

The issue with P-Mags is the thickness of the feed lips.
The first mags we tested with were great.  Then we started getting feedback from users with mags made after ours who were having difficulties, so we bought more P-Mags and found that the feed lips were thicker than on the earlier models and causing some interference with the bottom of the carrier.  A few seconds with light sand paper, or letting the bolt go closed over the top of the lips a few times seems to remove just enough material on these later P-Mags to remove that interference,

Have you tried current-production US Palm?  If so, how did they perform?

Many thanks,

I don't know that we were testing the absolute latest US Palm mags, but those we did test with tested poorly.  Both fit and feed issues.

Steve, have orders on the LAR-47 been caught up yet? I'm still waiting on the LAR-47 Tactical Comp that was ordered at the beginning of March. Been reading reviews on them and can't wait to be able to actually handle mine. Thanks for all your posts and responses,
