| Out of the current generation of .308 ARs which seems to be the best for the money? Preferably optics ready. It will be primarily a hunting weapon for hogs and whitetail deer. I asked about .308 as I fear a .556 would not be adequate for deer hunting and want ammunition that is readily available but would consider other calibers. I've read the reviews about problems with the G2 and not sure I want to deal with S&W customer service should the need arise. Thanks |

A LMT MWS at $2300 is one of the best values in .308. Higher end obviously. If your Budget is $1500-2000 try Armalite. Less than $1500 I think DPMS will serve you well. Or maybe even. Bushmaster MOE model. |

Would you like to be able to watch your bullet impact the animal, but still have energy on-target closer to a .308?
Would you like to be able to stay within the AR15 platform, with all the standardized after-market parts that work with it? Would you like significantly less recoil? I would look at the other calibers in the AR15 if you answered "yes" to any of these questions. My preference is the 6.5 Grendel because it fulfills all of the above, and all the ammunition was actually meant to work well from the AR15 specifically. If you are dead set on .308 and AR10's, I would recommend just getting the G2 and be done with it. |

I'm thinking about $1500 to leave room for optics. Thoughts on .300 BLK with supersonic ammunition for small to medium deer at 100yds? I took my first deer, a button buck with a frontal shot from a 8.5" blk out. It was about 80yds through the front. I used a hand loaded 125SST Hornady round and it took out the top part of the heart. It hit a rib and broke it on the way in. I couldn't tell how far it went past, I don't believe it ended up in the gut sack. It was plenty adequate especially from a short barrel within 100yds. If I'm shooting beyond 100yds... I want to have a 308-hence I ordered an AR901. my first few trips felt pretty inadequate looking at tree lines about 250-300 YDs out with a 1-4 scope. |
