Hey guys, relative newbie here with a few questions about this platform.

I am in the final stages of finishing this build, with pretty much everything ordered. Here is what I have thus far...

- DPMS LR .243 20' HBAR, (the original version with aluminum free float hand guard and flash hider)
- Magpul PRS stock
- Hogue Overmold grip
- SJC Titan Compensator
- YHM Low pro gas block
- Franklin Armory FSR free float rail
- Vortex Viper HS LR 4-16x44 with BDC reticle

Pieces are arriving daily, and the rifle itself will be here tomorrow. Friggin Christmas come early. My question is this, I know the .243 Win remains transonic out to around 1,100m using bullets up to 107gr. But what do these DPMS rifles like to eat? I know its an individual thing, but I am looking for a place to start.

Also, what kind of distance, and accuracy can I expect to get out of this 20 inch barrel? To be honest, there is not too much info out there on these, and no one around here has messed with anything like this.

If anyone has any other suggestions for mods, please let me know. I have heard the triggers are pretty bad on these, I guess we will see. Opinions on the setup? Thanks in advance.

Mine is a lr .243  hunter 20" barrel,  straight from dpms,  only mod is I had the trigger worked to smooth it out.  Didn't change the pull weight.
It shoots Rem 100 gr core lokt, hornady 100 gr interlock, Bitterroot Valley 100gr grand slam, and Herter's 100 gr SP .  About 40 rounds of each during break in and sighting the scope with no problems.
Been using the herter's to shoot pigs and other pests so it has about another 50 rounds of that, still no problems. The herter's were only $16.00/20 so that helps on the budget

The core-lokt, BVR, and hornady all shot .75" at 100 yds,  the Herter's shot about an 1.1" so not much diff. at the ranges I shoot < 200 yds.

Can't help you much on the long distance stuff, but if I had more time its a thing I'd like to get into.

Good info buddy, I appreciate it.

As far as the Herters stuff goes, I have a Cabelas nearby and here locally the 100gr .243 stuff is on sale for $13.99 a box. For brass cased stuff that seems like a reasonable deal, glad to hear they shoot ok for plinking.

Anyone else who has the DPMS is encouraged to chime in, this will be my first DPMS rifle in the AR10 platform. Thanks

When I had my dpms 243, I shot hornady sst 95 grain. Very accurate at 100 yards. Miss that AR but don't miss the weight. Am hoping dpms comes out with a gen II version.

Dont blame you, if I needed to be highly mobile I probably would have chosen a different setup. From the factory this thing weights like 10  lbs

After I sold mine, I picked up a DPMS 308 Oracle. Still lighter than the 243.

107 grain Sierra Match Kings hammer. I suggest you use IMR-4064, RE-15, N150 or Varget and don't push them too fast. The action will thank you for it.

Thanks for the info, I have heard people have good luck with the 107gr Sierras

What kind of distance do you guys push yours out to?
