So I just finished and finally got to shoot my 300 blackout pistol. 7.5 inch barrel with pistol length tube and standard length buffer. The gunsmith that checked it out with me and test fired it with me said it wouldn't cycle subsonic ammo with out a can. Low and behold it didn't. It would shoot one round, eject the brass but not feed the next round. He put in some supersonic ammo and it shot perfectly. As I was looking for supersonic ammo, as all I have subs he told me to take one weight out of my buffer until I can get a can or find supers. He typically only stocks subsonic ammo because he specializes in class III and most other places here have never heard of a 300 blackout. Has anyone else pulled a weight out of their buffer to remedy a problem? I took mine out and it just seems to rattle more but I haven't shot it yet.

What buffer is it?  Carbine, H, H2?  I would guess an H2 based on your description.  The .300 was designed to run on an H2 with a short barrel.  However, I know several guys that run the Spikes T2 (including myself) because it is the happy medium between an H and an H2.

I'm not sure what weight buffer it is, it isn't stamped any where. It came as a kit with the pistol tube and it was a fairly cheap kit.

They make 300blk specific buffer springs. This helped mine cycle subs without a suppressor.

It is also good if you have an adjustable gas block. You can dial the gas down with supers and get the gun to run a little smoother.

I seem to remember something about a heavier buffer fixing FTE and FTF issues. Something about the greater mass allowed the bolt to lock up a little longer and more pressure build. I don't remember the details, but might be worth investigating.

Try a different buffer spring like the Spikes one.  That's whatvibdid and it runs flawlessly.

Weigh the buffer after taking the weight out and see if it is less than a standard 3 oz carbine buffer. The gunsmith is correct in that you want a lighter buffer system not a heavier one like you need for blowback operated guns. 2.5 - 3oz buffer and a standard carbine spring usually works for a pistol ported barrel. Make sure the ports are aligned as not all gas blocks go all the way against the shoulder. Just had to correct one of those. Less than 4" of barrel in front of gas port makes them a little more trickier to tune.

I was running a H2 buffer on my 10.2" blackout before I switched to a JP silent spring, it ran unsuppressed subs about pretty well.  Occasionally it wouldn't lock the bolt open after the last round, but it cycled 100%.
