I have tried searching this out so I apologize in advance if its been covered before.
Will .450 BM feed from STANAG mags or does it require a specialized follower? |

In my experience the taper of the cartridge makes the 450 a poor fit in regular mags. BM masked the problem to some extent by limiting the capacity of their magazines to 4 or 5 rounds, but simply put the taper of cartridge is wrong for standard AR mags and the feed lips just barely retain the front of the top cartridge in mag. The top round is susceptible to tipping up through the mag lips when the mag lips spread as more rounds are loaded The angle that each round rests in the feed lips depends how many cartridges are in the magazine, as the force from the compressed mag spring causes spreading and changes in the distance between the feed lips.
I bought two 450 BM at the same time. Saw this problem, and was very happy to be able to sell them at only a modest loss. I switched to the 458 SOCOM. It does not have that same problem. |
| Thanks, .458 SOCOM would be the prefered route But I am having trouble finding Magazines marked as such. Given the 5 round limit on rifle mags (in Canada) having the calibre marked on the mag is important, otherwise a mag blocked to 5 rnds of .223 will only hold 2? .450 or .458. |
