Howdy Guys,

I may be trading a 1911 this weekend for a AR10, its a DPMS panther, and i would like to convert it to side charge as I would much rather it be on the side like my Norinco MAK90 or dads Dragunov. I can't find much but from what I have found you just buy a side charge handle, drill and tap the bolt carrier and mill out the receiver (This is one with no dust cover or forward assist) am I right or am I missing something? I have a milling machine, and I plan on hydro dipping the gun so I am not worried to much about refinishing it.

Appreciate your time guys!

Sounds good to me.  The one thing that would concern me is where you have to drill and tap.  Make sure there are no burrs on the inside for the gas rings to catch, but maybe that really isn't a problem, I don't know.

I always like to make sure every thing is deburred and such, so there is no worry when it comes to the drill and tap. I guess I shall have me a side charger in no time.

May want to close off the charging handle opening, just in case.

JP makes a side charger 308: http://jprifles.com/1.2.5_LRP07.php. They close off the charging handle opening.

If I were to go with a side charger, I'd rather have one on the left side (like the JP).  That way I could stay on the gun better, using the support hand to cycle the action, unless I was a left handed shooter.
