I am working on a build list for a 300blk AR upper to be an option with an existing AR15 lower and from what I understand the only part that is different from a 5.56AR is the barrel (other than the round of course). I plan on attaching a BE Meyers 7.62 flash hider making it 16"+OAL (Its 4.4") as I live in the "Peoples Republic of Crook County" so the idea of an SBR is out of the question.
The thing I am having a hard time finding is a good to great quality 4150 steel 12-12.5" nitromet or chrome lined barrel with carbine length / .75". Any suggestions would be a great help! |

Did you check Rainier Arms? As far as I know they have one of the largest selections of 300 Blackout barrels.

| Sure did, everything they have is either 10-10.5" or 14.5". I REALLY like the performance of the B.E. Meyers flash hiders and am trying to keep the OAL as close to 16" as I can. Taking into account the ballistics of the round I dont see the need to go 16" for what is really a sub 200-250yd round and end up being 20"OAL. I wish I lived in a better State and County that would actually issue an SBR but I dont. |

Cmmg has a 12.5" nitrided bbl, but it has a pistol length gas set up. I had seen that but from what I have read on here and other forums there customer service has a lot to be desired and there quality is not the greatest. I could always go to a 14-14.5" with the YHM Annihilator Flash Hider as it is still a very good hider and does look badass. That said still having an issue finding one in 4150cv that is Nitrided. There are a TON in stainless but why do stainless on a round that is short distance. I would rather find something that has more durability and cost the same or less. Yes I realise that I will not be putting 10's of thousands of rounds through it, but again why pay $300+ on a quality barrel in stainless that will wear out faster for a relatively short distance weapon? |

It's better to have a pistol-length gas system on 300BLK barrels, especially ones that are less than 16". I have read that piston seems to cycle better. Mid Length and Rifle Length are a for sure NO GO. But I heard that Carbine length will cycle. Has this changed? I would assume that if I use a piston system with a wide open or adjustable gas block set to a high gas setting should be reliable to cycle. |
