I am looking to order a buffer and buffer spring but am getting a lot of conflicting information on which to go with.

Mostly what I am seeing suggests using a rifle buffer and spring for dpms. But my build out will have a collapsible stock not a fixed stock. I see that a collapsible stock on a dpms 308 should use carbine tubes, buffers and springs.

So to settle this I went to the dpms website directly. I go to... Store, replacement parts, LR platform, collapsible stock, buttstocks and whalla! I see buffers and springs. All smaller sized no rifle buffers to be seen. I click on one of them and it mentions 223 specs and says in bold. "Not for use on 308 rifles". What gives? I am pretty sure this means not for use on their fixed stock 308 but it does leave me doubting.

Can someone help straighten out the confusion?

Here is my setup.

DPMS brand lower
Collapsible mil-spec magpul stock
20" or 22" barrel (I did read this mattered???)

Thank you for any clarifications!

The barrel doesn't matter. You need a mil-spec carbine receiver extension (buffer tube) along with a .308 carbine buffer and spring, Brownells sells the whole kit here (mil-spec version in your case to match your stock): http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/stock-forend-parts/buffer-tube-parts/buffer-tubes/ar-style-308-stock-mounting-kits-prod44751.aspx

Remember, if standard 7" buffer tube, then you must use the shorter DPMS-specific carbine buffer or the Slash CAR-10 buffer.
If using the Armalite, A5, or other roughly 7.625" buffer tube, then you can use one of the heavier 5.56 buffers.
Either way, you must use the corresponding .308 buffer spring for whichever set-up you choose.

For a buffer and spring, check out heavybuffer.com They have the correct buffers and springs for the .308 carbine.

I run an Armalite AR10 carbine tube, buffer and spring on my DPMS build...

Not a single issue, runs great single shot or bump firing multiple rounds and I love the extra length!
