Being a .338-06 fan, and fully realizing the terminal effects of .338 on game, I am intrigued. Please keep us updated. Ha you can tell I have the fever now. I am going to run with the 358 Gremlin for a while and considering running a modified 180 gr TTSX or something like that. Either one will have the same terminal effects so not sure if it is worth the aggravation of a new wildcat, but I am sure Dave Kiff could whip up a reamer. Actually I would bet he has already done one. Mcgowen is doing my 358 Gremlin barrel for $225 so should be the same for a 338 Grendel. Same mag should also work which is a PRI 6.8 waffle mag. Custom Dies should be about $150. That said with my 338-284 when I first reamed that barrel, I did not have a sizing die and would run the 308 then the 338 K+M Expandiron on the brass and neck turn and 90% were ready to fire without resizing. I later bought a C4HD resizing die. Powders should be similar to the 358 Gremlin. |

Lapua made what they called the ' 338 Tactical '......it was a 338 'heavy' (sub-sonic) based on the Grendel parent case......it's next to impossible to find info on Google with all the cross-fertilized posts about the 338 Lapua Magnum.... On the Grendel / x39 parent case we've done a 25, 6.8, 7, 30, 338, and 358......a little different length or shoulder angle depending on caliber, but same casehead and fairly straight....we had the best results from the 6.8, 7, and 358 based on bullet weight for caliber super-sonic.... |

Have a sbr upper in '338 Grendel'. Runs great lots of potential with hog and deer hunting but the Grendel mags are a pain to find. Sorry for digging up this thread but I have a guy who can turn a barrel and make dies, if interested send me a im |

Already ordered the barrel from McGowen. 12 twist 20" threaded.
Have brass and scored 300 180 gr Speer bullets. Got the dies from BFG. You pay $40 for the reamer rental when you buy the dies. Expensive overall but its done. Should get it in February. Supposedly according to BFG the magazine to use is the PRI 6.8 SPC waffle mag. |

Yes will do subsonic. Of course a 20" bbl wont help that. Dont have a can anyway and wanted to get a tad more out of it but may look into a suppressor for it one day.
Google BFG cartridge and there is some info there. 180 grainer in a 17" bbl will supposedly do about 2250-2350 over lil-gun. There is also a 358 6.8 SPC variant. |
