Well  the “mid 2013” timeline Magpul gave for the 10LR magazines has  come and gone, and firearms season here in Missouri starts in 3 weeks.
I have previously stated I had no interest in a lower capacity steel magazine and I didn’t really want to permanently alter a perfectly good 20LR, so it is time to “put something together”.
I DO NOT know what your local and state laws are in regards to magazine capacities and what can be done to be compliant. I have seen threads from California of rivets’ and epoxy to be compliant.
I do know, however, that in Missouri, you can only hunt with a magazine with a capacity of no more than 10. This can be done with limiters or blockers…. Think shotgun plug to limit a shotgun to three.
The limiting device I used was a piece of ½” airline tubing, but anything you can get to stay in the recess shown should work just fine. Note how the mag spring is considerably smaller that the follower.

I modified a Lancer 10rd mag for use here in NY for hunting. We are required to have a capacity of 5 rounds in the mag for hunting and it doesn't have to be permanent, (but total capacity of any mag can not exceed 10 rounds in it's unmodified form and can only be loaded with 7 rounds even though they have a 10 round cap). I used a simple block of spruce cut to length and shape to fit inside the spring and then attached that to the springs baseplate with a simple countersunk screw.

I tried several different ways to limit capacity and the block of wood was the only way that prevented the 6th round from being forced under the feedlips, here the troopers will use every bit of their strength to get another round to be retained by the mag, even if it will not work in the rifle or they damage the mag.

Intuitive solutions.

I'm feeling the 10 round magpul mags though. They're cheap enough http://store.magpul.com/product/MAG559/PMAG
