| Can the DPMS 308 Oracle shoot both .308 and 7.62x51 ammo? Some people say yes and some people say no. What say ye? |
| A buddy of mine has been searching for days and he's saying he can't shoot .308 Win in his DPMS 308 because the lower is marked 308 and his barrel is marked 7.62x51. He's been reading all sorts of stuff saying he can't shoot .308 Win in his DPMS 308 Oracle. I've been explaining to him he can without any problems. |
| I would hold off. here is why. I went through this when I purchased mine. Some say go for it but others say don't. The 308 does shoot at higher pressures. I emailed DPMS and was told its ok to shoot 308 in the oracle. Last weekend, went shooting up north. Had a mag full and brought 5 boxes of 7.62. Didn't realize the mag was full of 308 from when I purchased the rifle. Anyways, shot the mag first, the 2 more boxes of 7.62. 1st mag produced 2 jams. Didn't think to much of it. Cleared and fired. Finished the other 2 boxes. Came home and next day cleaned the oracle. the bolt is damaged. teeth missing. Goes into DPMS monday. Not a happy camper now. Sold my DPMS 243 to fund the oracle, which was a dead on rifle but heavy. Starting to wonder if I made a mistake. Will hold judgement until I see what DPMS has to say. I have a photo of it in the maintenance section. My suggestion, fire what is on the barrel. |
