I recently bought a stripped lower and planned to build it for 5.56 but with all the hype about 300 blackout im thinking about going that route but do not know much about it.
To those who know are there any 5.56 parts/mags that interchange or does 300 have its own components? |

Everything interchanges except the barrel and ammo. The ammo is made from a cut down .223/5.56 case and uses .308 diameter bullets.
Google and reading are your friend. Before investing hundreds of dollars into something, take some time to read and many questions will be answered. Numerous threads below yours answer many commonly asked questions. |

Assuming this is your first AR, I would skip the blackout and build a 5.56 gun. Blackout is a great round suppressed, but its difficult to find ammunition right now, and when you do find it the ammunition is more expensive. Once you've got a do it all 5.56 with (relatively) cheaply available ammunition then you might decide to get a blackout (especially if you're looking for a suppressed SBR where it really shines). |
| this is my first build and I have intentions on building either caliber to be ready for a suppressor once I get one later down the road and from what everyone is talking about that 300 is the way to go if you have plans for a suppressor. Definitely see your point about ammo since I own a 6.8 and deal with ammo prices on that already. Guess I have some thinking to do. Thanks for the input |
| Just my opinion but 5.56 is a waste of time and it's no more difficult to build a 300. Secondly If you reload or as in my case LOAD, then 300 isn't too bad. . Super sonics run perfectly fine and a suppressor would just be icing on the cake but not required ballistically. Suppressors are nice< don't get me wrong but at $1000 + , then the $200 tax stamp. and what ever a trust runs ya if ya need one. Way too much money. |

I have three 300 BLK guns now and am building a fourth. None of them are suppressed, but having the option is very nice. One is a pistol. The 300 BLK is a perfectly good hunting round within its limits -- about 200 yards or so. I load / reload and can shoot the 300 for not much more than 5.56. Factory ammo is becoming more available, but is still pretty expensive.
I've had ARs in 5.56 / .223 for years and rarely shoot them. I shoot the 300s A LOT. |
| I have a 16" .300 that I hunt with. Deer don't run. It has the $139 barrel from SOTA Arms and is very accurate. Working on a .300 sbr now, waiting on a tax stamp to return. Ammo has been consistently coming back to the market. Even Remington is producing some, although not their cheaper one yet. |

| Anything you can hunt with a .308 you can hunt with a 300BLK, you just have to be about 250 yards closer. It is very similar in supersonic to 30-30 which has taken plenty of deer over the years. In subsonic it's about the same weight projectile as .45ACP but 1050 fps instead of 850 fps and better ballistic coefficient. |

To those who know are there any 5.56 parts/mags that interchange or does 300 have its own components? what are your plans for this rifle ? target shooting , hunting , or home defense ? do you already have another ar? I really enjoy my blackouts I have a 16 inch carbine an 8.5 inch pistol and a remington 700. this cartridge is a reloaders dream you can go from mild to wild . I could not tell you the last time I bought centerfire ammunition I buy components in bulk and roll my own it takes more time but I know the q.c. guy and he pays close attention at all times. I have found that for me I really like lil gun powder for supersonics especially 110 grain v-max at about 2250 fps gives excellent accuracy and 1680 powder for sub sonic rounds mainly 225 grain hornady match loaded right at 1000 fps and outlaw state 220 grain for hunting at about the same velocity . If you reload the the 300 is the way to roll . If you dont already have a 5.56 and dont reload then maybe the 5.56 first and get a 300 blackout upper later. |
| I am toying with getting into this round. Is there a thread, 1 thread, somewhere that I can read up on it? I have looked over several threads but it seems like everything is debated and no real hard information. I have seen threads debating best twist rates (does every caliber have this debate?) and best barrel length. Everybody seems to be disagreeing with each other on the best specs for this round. |
