| Been wanting to do a 6.8 build and was thinking about getting this from psa, but I don't know much about the 6.8 platform such as what twist rate is best and whether I would lose much velocity being it is a 14.5 carbine. I was also wandering about the light weight profile FWIW I plan on maybe using it for deer hunting. |
| 1:11 SPCII is exactly what you want. A LW barrel is perfect for hunting and the 14.7 will work out to 300yds easily. I personally would not shoot an animal much past that with my 6.8 (based on my skills). You will be very happy with that upper. Cold hammer forged and all. |

Like anything a lot of the answers are personal preference, Heres mine
I have a 6.8 to get higher energy out of the AR15 platform so I don't look for the shortest barrel but want to maximize the cartridge and still have a carbine package so I suggest going 16" or 18" to get that extra 100FPS I also want a barrel that I should be able to expect 1 MOA or better so I look for a better quality (accuracy wise) barrel. I expect the FN milspec type of barrel on the PSA is speced more for durability than accuracy with the "machine gun steel " and chrome lining. While one of those barrels might hit 1 MOA I would expect more in the 2 moa at best for expectations. I also like a Free float fore arm to have a consistant POA (no influence from a sling or using a tree for support." Along with PSA take a look at ARP products (melonited barrels) and Bison )SS barrels) You might spend an extra 100-150 Also make sure you can find a 6.8 bolt before you order an upper without the BCG like that one you are looking at. They can still be hard to find Jerry |
Thanks for the info if I did get it I was thinking of installing a centurion rail later down the line. They also have the bolt in stock for 199 so it would be 528 total which wouldn't be to bad to start out with. I already have a few extra lowers put together BRD and all. I've been wanting to start a Mega MATEN but can't seem to find them in stock anywhere so this would just hold me off for a while.
