LR .308, is this a common wear item ?
Thanks

Does not seem normal to me, but word is that LR308's are over gassed and

that would put a lot of stress right there. What brand of bolt is that?

Not DPMS, dont want to say right now
Home built upper, 24" rifle length gas on top of AP4 carbine lower, maybe that has something to Do with it,

Is that a JP bolt?

How many rounds?  Factory ammo or reloads?  If reloads, what are the specs for the ammo you are running?

JP bolt, my build (if all wrong) should NOT reflect badly on JP, just me !!
Hand loads, LC cases, Win. LRP's, Nosler 168 C.C.'s, IMR 4895-41.5 gr., sized .004" under fired size

The 24" barrel with RLGS will have some dwell time characteristics to it that are not what the original system was designed around.

Combine that with a carbine buffer, and you have a recipe for early or violent unlocking, and the extractor often takes a lot of punishment in that gas system/operating system arrangement.

You can mitigate this problem with an adjustable gas block, heavier buffer, flat wire Tubbs recoil spring, or combination of these.  Usually people use a rifle-length stock and recoil system with a 24" gun.

Proper buffer and spring on the way

Won't help much get an adjustable gas block too much gas won't be stopped by a heavy spring or buffer it will only work the bolt harder

I have had extraction issues and started with an adjustable gas block and it

helped the issue. I just got a heavy buffer and spring for it and hope that

solves it. I agree that it needs help on both ends.

The rifle has always ran fine, though does kick like a mule with the 16" upper in it.
This is the first problem I've had other than the factory mags, which I fixed.
Not sure the 24" Rainier Ultra Match barrel is overgassed...the carbine upper could well be.

had the EXACT same thing happen to my Fulton Armory M110 -- brittle fracture at the extractor claw. This was when i first got the rifle and was shooting wolf steel case through it. Fulton Armory handled it very professionally and sent me a new extractor out immediately.

Update: Installed new Buffer and spring
Recoil impulse is different, seems slower, less violent
So far so good

Something is still wrong....you missed the bottom left target completely!
