Anyone have one? Thoughts?

I scrolled back through the pages and used the search, but couldn't find any threads.

So far a great rifle.  Only about two hundred flawless rounds through mine but extremely pleased.

My largest complaint is that the iron sights are just OK.  However, that is a pretty minimal complaint.  She is a bit of a pig to carry also, but I am a big boy.  Pretty good workout.

Love mine. Used it to deer hunt with last year.

I have one and love it also. Only complaint is that it is big and heavy. But it is fun at the range having people ask me what the heck it is. It just looks like an AR for big boys

I picked up a 716 last month but unfortunately have not had the chance to test it yet. All I have to offer at this point is that it looks nice!

Oh, and it's more expensive to shoot too

Got it from one of our sales reps, who's part of a buy group in the Dallas area. He magically ends up with all kinds of good stuff

Now try to find some extra magazines for it

Does anyone know what steel magazines are good? Since 7.62 Pmags are so hard to find. I'd like to have a few steel mags anyways just to shake things up. Right now I don't have any SR25 pattern metal mags yet so I'm looking to get some and find out who makes good ones.

Depends on what you want to spend.. KAC are regarded highly as far as steel mags, but are pricey

Does anyone know why the buffer tube is longer than standard on the 716? I'd really like to install a magpul UBR stock kit on my 716 but need to figure out why the  716 tube is so long first?

Also curious about this.....

The UBR has a specific buffer tube to it that comes with the stock if I recall correctly I don't think the buffer tube is longer than average, based on the fact that your current magpul stock seems to collapse all the way just fine, though I could be wrong there....

It looks to me like the 716 uses an Armalite AR-10 length carbine buffer tube, which is a little longer than an AR-15 carbine tube, and uses a little different buffer and spring than a LR-308 pattern.  You can see in the pic that the stock does not quite collapse all the way.  If you switch to a UBR, it uses a regular carbine length tube, so you would need to buy a LR-308 carbine buffer and spring.

The 716 looks like a solid rifle, but they didn't have the barrel length and weight I want.  Enjoy!  The TA-11 is a perfect choice for that rifle.

I have a ODG Sig 716.

It fires 308 ammo fine except it scratches and dents the piss out of the brass. After suring the Sig forum, this seems to be a common thing on many of them.

Even Police Mag had one doing screwing up brass: http://www.policemag.com/channel/weapons/articles/2013/01/sig-sauer-716-patrol-rifle.aspx

Some people send them back and Sig fixes them. I'm not tried it yet. I bought some shit TulAmmo steel case ammo to see if it'll break in.

Next thing is, they're picky with ammo. It will fire 308 Winchester hunting ammo, white box Winchester 7.62x51, but XM80 Federal Lake City 149gr would not cycle good. It had FTF FTE problems. I eventually saturated the gun with rem oil and turned the piston adjustment one click to adverse (more gas) and after a couple more FTF/FTE it started firing the lake City 7.62.x51.

Similar problems with ammo pickiness can be found all over the place:

If you look hard enough you can find .308 mags out there. I have purchased 11- 20LR Pmags since February at an average cost of $23.50 shipped. I have also recently seen DPMS 19rd steel mags at my LGS for 29.99 and have not heard any negative feedback on those mags.

Good info.

I take it that the 716 is .308 safe, since it's rollmarked 7.62? I have a couple hundred rounds of CBC M80 (Magtech). Curious to see if it runs on that reliably. I also have a few boxes of Hornady 168gr. A-Max. Pretty sure that won't be an issue.

ETA: Disregard, I found the answer on pg. 21 of the manual.....it is compatible.

I got 4 extra PMags when I got the rifle. Not nearly enough, but much better than just the one that came with it.

It fires .308 fine in mine aside from scratching and denting the cases (does it with 7.62x51 as well sometimes). It actually cycled 308 the best.

With the .308 having a higher pressure, I think that it would.
