what do you think is a fair price?

IF they were in stock, the Walmart NiB price was $895 for the 16" Sportacals.

He is trying to make a healthy100% + profit on his investment.

Just wait until the current buying frenzy is over and then get it for about a third of what he is asking since it is a used gun after all.  Don't blame your friend, he is just doing what everyone on these boards would do if they were selling something now.  Like I have penned before, when YOU are selling to me YOU are a price GOUGER.  When I am selling to YOU, then I am only selling at fair market value.  As we see daily, fair market value changes every time Obama opens his mouth.
Be honest, if you could sell your rifle for $2100, would you sell it to your friend for a third that?  Sure you would, you say so on the boards but if two people were cash in hand, one with $2100 and one with $700, you'd be selling to the one with the bigger roll of cash.  You know it and I know it.
