Today I had a chance to shoot an AA Rifle 6.5 Grendel (20 in bbl) it was scoped w/ SWFA "Super Sniper" 10x and I put 80 rounds of Lapua and Hornady factory ammo through it; nice rifle, after shooting some 100 & 200 meter groups then pounding the steel @ 400 & 600 meters I came away rather impressed, certainly had lots of fun.
The my shooting partner and owner of the rifle had to pry the thing out of my hot little hands at the end of the range session; he told me what he paid for it and told me they offer complete uppers. So I checked the AA website and yes they offer uppers, however they say that they only fit MIL-SPEC Lowers. I have a RRA A2 NM rifle that I shot high power with years ago and it's been a safe queen for ages; my question is : Is the RRA lower considered MIL-SPEC? As I'd hate to pony up $820.00 for the new upper and the darn thing not fit. Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks |

Your lower will work just fine. The Grendel is my favorite AR cartridge by far. I've worn out two barrels and still have two I love to shoot, one in 20" and one in 28". 300 yard targets are boring with the Grendel, it gets fun at 500! How many rounds to wear out a barrel? |

You really ought to look into getting a Melonited/Nitro-Caborizes(sp?) barrel. –––––––– Oh. Like the others have said; Your lower will probly work fine. If not, there are things you can buy like a wedge or Demon takedown pin. |

There are many variables but you well start to see throat erosion around 5K+/- You see a very gradual accuracy decrease. The Grendel is a boringly accurate rifle. Very forgiving about wind influence, it's starting becoming a challenge as you approach 500yds. |

I shot close to 7000 before I swapped out. It would still shoot sub MOA with a couple loads, but had consistently shot sub MOA with 6-7 different loads up to there. It actually shot .25 MOA groups with 2 different loads until it had 6000 rounds or better. It still was plenty accurate for a hunting rifle, but I shoot lots more paper than fur, so I was picky. You can expect at least what I got with a stainless barrel, and probably 10,000 with a chrome barrel. |

How many rounds to wear out a barrel? We haven't gotten there yet. But probably more than it takes to wear out a 5.56mm barrel as the pressures are lower and heat dissipation happens faster with the larger bore. For carbon steel, probably well over 10,000rds. |
