I'm looking for info on AR 308 lowers and the mags they use.
I'd like to put a DPMS style upper on a lower that takes some sort of pre-ban mag. I'm stuck in a ban state is why I care. Any thing like that exist? I know Armalite's use modified M14, but that won't work with a DPMS style upper. |

Look in here first
The Upper and Lower in .308 AR "platform" cannot be mix and match anyway you like (unlike AR15). Most Manufacturer has upper only works with their own brand of lower. Many company make a DPMS/SR25 style mag lower receiver, they are usually sold as a set. I got my from MidwayUSA, SI defense. Even Armalite AR-10A use SR-25 style mag and Pmag. there are some .308 lower use G3 mag and FAL mag. |

I believe only the lower parts (trigger, buffer spring etc..) can be swapped out, the upper and rails are made just for the LAR-8, look on RRAs website for more info. |

I like PMags....easy enough to find right now, all seem to function 100% for me, and they arent horrible on price.
ETA: oh ya.....and I I am able to use a Springer Precision mag coupler to put two 308 PMags together.....which makes a fairly decent monopod if you will.

| CMMG MK8 (not newer MK3) lower receiver takes G3 mags and is compatible with DPMS uppers. No BHO though due to magazine design. I have no experience with them, but maybe another option for you in a ban state. CMMG no longer have them on the website so you may have to hunt one down on the internets. |

I can't find anyone that still makes G3 mag AR 308 lowers, and tough to find on auction sites. Companies stopped making them after reports that mags vary too much and people reporting problems with some of their mags. So my only real option is a FAL lower like the LAR 8, or just such it up and get SR-25 style lower with 10 rounders. |

| I fell into a bushmaster bar-308 that also takes fal mags (it was one of the later ones made before being discontinued and had the bolt issues already fixed). picked it up NIB for 900 and it's been a sweet and reliable shooter. If you can find one cheap on the used market they are really nice and if it happens to still have the old bad bolt you can replace it with an LAR8 bolt carrier as they are compatible. also the bar-308s are able to use a wider variety of aftermarket rail options. |

Can you put a DPMS upper on the Bushmaster? What parts are interchangable on LAR-8s and the Bar's? Uppers and lowers and bcg are interchangeable between the lar8 and the discontinued bar 308. Only real difference is that the bar 308 was threaded to accept more rail systems than the lar8 can. |
| FYI on the LAR-8..... I've seen both black and grey Israeli surplus mags. Of those I've tried they all feed 100%. The grey locks the bolt back SOMETIMES but the black holds it back always. Just a single data-point anecdote.... take it for what it's worth. your milage may vary. |
