I use the term light weight liberally in this case.

But if I wanted to build out the lightest .308 what should I look at?

Further stated...I want a hunting rig. I like the groupings that my remington r-25 shoots. I just dislike the weight.

From either building one...or making changes to my current stock r-25 where could i find weight savings?

That upper may have the straight cut at the rear of the upper receiver.  The Remington is a round corner cut like an AR15.

OP What length barrel and profile do you have now?

My AP4 is 7.5 - 7.75lbs without optics.  I had the barrel turned down by ADCO, I replaced the handguard with DPMS' carbon fiber, and replaced the stock with a Magpul CTR.  It still shoots great and is easy to carry.  Of course, slapping on optics and a magazine pushes it over 10lbs, but at least its lighter than stock.

The cmmg #38A20FB is 7 lbs 10 ozs straight out of the box. I weighed mine before i bought it.

I have since changed out the stock for a A2 combo and with a simple 3-9x40 bdc scope it comes in at 9 lbs empty, it works well for one of my hunting rigs. blue

DPMS Lite Hunter model weighs 8 lbs. Should be able to build something similar, or buy their Lite upper for your lower.
