I need a thread protector for the rifle I'm building. Will a standard .308 thread protector work?

It depends on the threads. I believe most .308s are 5/8x24 as are most 7.62x39 AR barrels. But there are 1/2x36 7.62x39 AR barrels as well; for them I suppose a 9mm might work, if there is such a thing.

My 7.62 upper w/stainless barrel is 1/2x36, same as 9mm. I know cause I pulled the YHM flash hider that came with my 7.62 upper and mounted it on my RRA 9mm upper recently. But I haven't seen a thread protector in that size.
