This wasn't an easy choice for me to build. I like having a good company backing a product with lifetime warranties. But after buying my first AR at the beginning of the year i was hooked. After lots of internet drooling I thought I would go ahead and build my own. Great info from many people here on the ar15.com forums have gotten me to where I am now. A big thanks too all of you guys. So here it is!

First impression of the maten mono is hands down one of the nicest pieces of machined metal i have held. I could not find one flaw, and trust me i looked. Beautiful black color, no burrs anywhere to be found. There is absolutely no movement between the upper and lower.

Soon after I got home from my LGS

One reason i wanted to post this is i am a first time builder. I do feel comfortable around tools having a bit of a background in construction and mechanic. On the other hand i don't think i needed it. It was very simple. Granted the maten mono has a few things build right into the reciever like the trigger guard and the takedown pins.

Anyways, ill post some finished pictures soon as i get my barrel back from getting refinished. Big thanks to Rainier Arms for helping me out.

Excellent choice! I love my MA-TEN.  What are you planning for the barrel?  JSEsurplus.com has great pricing on dpms barrels if you are still in the market.  I got my SASS barrel for $195.

I went with Rainiers Ultramatch in 18". I didnt want a tank of a gun, but i still wanted accuracy. this seemed to be a nice moderate weighted choice. It felt a bit pricey, we will see if it holds up it.

That was my first choice too, but they were sold out when I was shopping for the barrel and didn't want to wait, for the price I figured I might as well give the SASS barrel a try.  I knew it was going to be heavier but I don't mind my guns having a little heft to them.  Strictly bench shooting for me, not on patrol or anything like that.  What are you running for the bcm?

BCM? sorry havn't got all the lingo down.

I got the standard DPMS black phosphated bolt carrier if thats what you are asking. I thought about the JP but couldn't afford it. Not sure of the value of the extra cost. Lighter? More accurate? i dunno. I would have gone for the chrome bolt but its been sold out for awhile.

That is very nice the way they come together at certain points flawlessly ! I've always liked the monolothick rail which is why I went with the Vltor upper on my Noveske build. The only problem with your set up if you want to call it a problem, is that it looks SO GOOD that now you can't stop with just the upper and lower. You'll have to go with a quality barrel, optic and mount, trigger etc.......

It is a terrible problem
I had the stock trigger from my AR15 that i threw on this build. i have a Geissele S3G and didn't think i would want that on my 308. I havn't figured my glass out. Im broke as a joke right now so im just going to get out and enjoy it the way it is. Well soon as i get my barrel
The sick thing is, now i want to build an ar15 on one of mega monos and make a twin of it. i bought the Ruger SR556 as my first ar and i like it, but its not perfect
