I have a shit load of 5.45x39 ammo and I am in the process of deceiding between two uppers

Adams Arms AR-15 A3 Base Carbine Gas Piston Upper Assembly 5.45x39mm 1 in 8" Twist 16" Barrel Melonite Treated Chrome Moly Matte with M4 Handguard, Flash Hider, 30-Round Magazine Pre-Ban

or

Smith & Wesson AR-15 A3 Flat-Top Upper Assembly 5.45x39mm 1 in 8" Twist 16" Barrel Chrome Lined Chrome Moly Matte, A2 Front Sight, Flash Hider, with 30-Round Magazine Pre-Ban m&p15r

I do like the idea of a piston because of the carrosive ammo, but i have also heard great reviews about the m&p15r

I went with the Spike's Tactical upper. Melonite coated barrel, FSB, and gas tube. Nickel Boron barrel extension. The thing is built for corrosive ammo!

*I know you said pick between the two you listed, but I felt my input on the Spikes might be usefull.

Spike's midlength upper is the heat. Mine crossed over 1k rounds today without yet being cleaned. Nothing has rusted or pitted. This thing is extremely corrosion resistant.

I've had more than a few failures to feed with Cproducts mags (junk) but all my ASC mags, which look the same, have been reliable. The upper itself has run flawlessly as well.

I would go with a Spikes Mid Length upper or a Smith and Wesson. But I would pick the Spikes first.

Is the spikes still available, I heard aim bought them all and they are sold out

You can pre order them from AIM. Spikes is making more, the barrels are/were being coated a few weeks ago. Link to thread

Can't say enough about Spike's midlength upper. I've shot roughly 800 rounds using all ASC mags with ZERO malfunction. . It's dirty as hell but I see no rust anywhere. Probably gonna go through another 800 rounds before I clean it.

I went with the spikes also. Like already said its built for cheap corrosive ammo. Mine should be at my house in a few days so I will post results sometime next week after I run a spam can through her.
