I have a dpms sass that I put together with a stock sass upper and the lower from an ap4 carbine that I had laying around. I am using a magpul ubr. It runs fine with the stock buffer, but I have been reading about the slash buffers an want to try out a heavier buffer. The slash is a bit spendy for an experiment. Also their website doesn't list a length for the car 10 buffer. My stock buffer is 2.5 inches long and 3 3/8 oz.
For comparison the armalite carbine .308 buffer is 3.25 inches and 5.4 oz. Its a bit cheaper (38$). Anyone with any experience with the slash buffers and the UBR? Also will 3.25 inches (the armalite buffer)be a problem since my stock buffer is 2.5 inches? I know I can call armalite or dpms or heavy buffers.com, but I thought I'd try here first. Thanks |

You cannot use the Armalite buffer unless you also use the Armalite buffer tube for a large-frame AR. The tube is longer. The .308 bolt carrier is longer and the Armalite .308 buffer is the same size as a 5.56.
Either go with DPMS specific buffer (DPMS or Slash) and a standard buffer tube or switch to Armalite buffer and AR10 tube. Slash will sell you Tungsten discs to replace the ones in your DPMS buffer. That's much cheaper. |
| I believe the UBR requires the shorter length buffers. The reason the AR-10 buffers are longer is because they use a proprietary buffer tube as opposed to the mil-spec carbine extension. The UBR is the same length as a normal carbine extension. Slash's buffer spring combo is pricey but the difference is noticeable. |
| DPMS makes and sells a buffer similar to Slash's so you can use any AR15 stock and tube. Its nowhere near the quality of Slash's buffer, and seem way too light for 308. But DPMS is the only other company that makes them, 7.62SASS.com sells one by ARR, but I think thats who makes DPMS buffers. |

I know the rifle length armalite buffer is way to big. But I was wondering if this one would work. Its only 3/4 inch longer than my stock buffer and nearly the same weight as the slash buffer.
http://www.armalite.com/ItemForm.aspx?item=EC0120&Category=93c41860-4ca2-43ee-8ca9-dc09b1a5bf2c Item Number: EC0120 THREE TUNGSTEN WEIGHT Caliber: .308 Overall Length: 3 1/4" Weight: 5.4 oz. Your Price: $38.00 EA I need to call slash and see how long their car10 buffer is and hopefully that should clear things up. Thanks for the replies. If anyone else has anything to add, I love to read what you all have to say and to learn from it. |

Both of my DPMS .308 carbines (1 SASS, 1 AP4) came with buffers measuring about 2.5" and suprisingly lighter (3.4oz) weight. My DPMS LR308T came with the rifle buffer, about 5 1/4" long and 5.3oz.
I too was wondering if changing to heavier weights in the carbines would reduce the felt recoil? I don't even know what type of weights are inside the 308 buffers? I watched that video by Vuurwuten and I'm supprised at the amount of bolt carrier bounce the lighter buffers allowed (in 5.56 AR's), and since I have a box of "like new" Carbine buffers, I want to buy some tungsten weights and build some H2 & H3 buffers for my AR15's. How do I contact that guy Slash? thanks |
