My kids and I were shooting last night and my son had just loaded a new magazine into my 9mm ar and fired off one shot and then told me is wouldn't fire again. I didn't see or hear what happened but it looked like there was part of a casing stuck in the barrel. I ran my cleaning rod down the barrel and pushed out the bullet and upon further inspection, found the back of the casing/primer. I can not get the rest of the casing out and wonder if anyone here has any ideas on how to remove it? I have never seen this happen before and don't know if I can remove it myself (special tool?) or need to take it into a gunsmith.  Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Ron

Sounds like the rifle fired out of battery and had insufficient enegy  to push the bullet out the barrel because the unsupported case ruptured loosing the gas pressure.  I know they make a 5.56 stuck case remover but I've never seen one for 9 MM.  A chambering  tool/cutter could easly cut the brass or steel case out of the chamber and probably be the least likely to damage the chamber.  If it were mine I might try  threading a small screw nut on the end of a cleaning rod after the rod was through the barrel.  The nut or washer just under the size of the inner  barrel diameter might catch enough of the case to pull it out.  I'd try drenching the chamber with PB blaster first.    I've never had this occur in any other caliber than 22 rimfire but maybe someone else willl chime in with a better idea.

Thanks for the reply. That is what it looks like to me as well. Unfortunately, the broken case is stuck tight! I tried using a larger bore brush after lots of PB and oil but nothing. Might have to find a gunsmith as I just don't have anything that I feel safe using. I really don't want to mess up the chamber. I looked everywhere but broken shell ejectors don't seem to be made in 9mm!
