Ok,so Im going to get an ar10 for my dad for his birthday, and Ive been looking around about putting one together since i can get a complete armalite lower for $329 I going to probably go in that direction, and with all the "this wont go with that, that wont go with this" complications with the AR10 I need to know which upper receiver/s,bcg,barrels, etc will be compatible so that I can have the armalite lower as my foundation. thanks in advance for your input.

If your going to get an AR-10 complete lower, you could finish your build with genuine Armalite parts......For example they have an AR-10A4 complete upper online for $786 plus your lower of $329 that is a functional AR-10 without sights for $1115....OR..Rainier Arms sells a Noveske AR-10 Upper for $1600

You can also piece together AR-10 parts from other manufacturers......it might cost ya a bit more

That's HUGE Roger That.

Get him the U10A4F.  Haven't met one that couldn't shoot sub-1" @ 100yds with
factory fodder like Hornady Custom Classic 150gr SST @ 2820fps.

EDIT:  Never met one with the INFANTRY weight barrels,  just many with the mid-weight pipe.

I think you cannot go wrong as long as you keep Armalite pattern barrel extensions, bolts, and bolt carriers the same, and DPMS pattern barrel extensions, bolts, and bolt carriers the same.  The problems I see people bring up on these boards are when they are mixed and matched.  I prefer the design of the Armalite BCGs over others, so I that dictated what barrel I would be using.  After that, everything else was secondary.  My MATEN receiver is compatible with either Armalite ot DPMS, but uses DPMS pattern magazines.  That allowed me to use Armalite pattern barrel and BCG with PMags which is what I really wanted.  Getting parts to assemble the rest of the rifle was fairly easy after that decision had been made.
